Motorcycle News has confirmed with Ducati that there will be a naked version of the 1098... I personally think it will be hot. Any opinions? http://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/News/newsresults /mcn/2008/October/27-31/oct2808-ducati-1098-street fighter-video/ |

I guess we will wait till monday Nov. 3 to see what it really looks like. The pic provided does not me excite. |

That's a rather ugly cobbled together ps mess but I'm sure the real thing will look much better. Though, I'd prefer they just stick an 848 in the 696/1100 frame. |

I am intrigued...if they can keep the cost reasonable. |

Looks like they are trying hard to compete with the Harley-Davidson Brutale |

i changed my mind... agreed, i like the styling of the new monster 696 better, but apparently ducati thinks this will sell. heck, i'd buy one if i had the money and the front fairing didn't just look like one big ol' headlight and the bellypan didn't look like crap. that seems like a lot of ifs... also, this will be one fast little streetfighter, which will be a fun bike to ride regardless of what it looks like! Try getting a peek at the desmosedici-monster concept. They tried squeezing in the new desmo engine in a monster frame, but decided it would not sell due to the extremely high cost of building the desmo engine... too bad |

"The Ducati 1098 Streetfighter - as it is being called - would not fit in with Ducati's current naked range of Monsters, it would instead stand alone as competition against other naked bikes such as the Triumph Speed Triple, Aprilia Tuono and KTM Super Duke." I guess MV and Buell don't count as competition? |

Buell doesn't count because they don't want Ducati to be embarrassed if it gets compared to the CR |

I bet this thing will go for about 17. I'd pay the extra 3 to keep it dressed. |

I'd be surprised if it looks like that. I think they would have a slicker headlight planned. Those mirrors look as cool as barnacles on a whale's dork. |

The 1098 retails at $14,900, the S4R Monster retails at $14,500 |

I was just shown the pricing on the Fighter and Fighter S two hours ago. No photo though. The S is 5K more than the standard! Should be interesting. |

40 grand for the 1098R? Jesus. Why so much more than the 1098? |

The 1098R is an 1198 and produces 186hp at the crank, has traction control, tons of other goodies. It's lighter than an 848. But hey, a bargain at half the price of a desmocidici! |

They really, and I'd love to have one as "art", fall outside the "consumer bike" class. I think Ducatis are absolutely amazing. Like them or hate them I am drawn simply by the "art" and the passion they evoke. No one, much like Buells, is indifferent about Ducati in the world of motorcycling. I've done a few gigs for Ducati and with some Ducati folks and I confess I have never had a bad time. A guy I see from time to time around town just popped for one of those $75,000 Ducatis and makes no bones that it's a "see and be seen bike". Not the way I'd spend it but you have to admire the folks. $10,000 is a huge number in motorcycling . . . next comes $15,000. |

Ducatis are lust. The naked pictured above simply invokes none. Must have a project given to the Multistrada group. Not all Ducatis are art. |

That is the worst photo shopped POS I have ever seen! That belly pan doesn't even look like it belongs there, and the lines for the oil cooler? C'mon, there's no way Ducati would let anything like that out the design studio doors. The video gave nothing that would even have me begin to believe the bike looked like that. If there's one thing I know, it's that MCN is only right about 10% of the time! I'll wait till the 3rd. Schmitty |

Actually, put a big-ass windshield on it, and big hard bags, and I think they have a winner. I say that about most bikes though. It looks kind of like an SV650, but with a bigger trust fund. |
