All good - I've been building the kiwirider web site http://www.kiwirider.co.nz The site has been on the backburner for a while, it was just a comms portal, but we are building it slowly now. Fill in the who is the greatest grand prix racer ever survey. so far it's 2/3rds say Rossi. (Message edited by danger_dave on October 20, 2008) |

Had to vote Rossi. Doohan was tempting and Wayne Rainey should be on the list. There is more to being the greatest than just results and Rainey was and is a class act- as are Rossi and Doohan. Then again I always liked Bob Hurricane Hannah in motorcross so that is kind of an exception.... |

Hmmm - I voted for Mick - I used the top 8 names from here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_motorcycle_Gr and_Prix_winners |

Wow- 3 time world champ and "only" 24 wins. Consistency pays. He gets bonus points with me for the way he has carried forth after the crash. |

There is an argument for Surtees too - both cars and bikes. |

Rossi still may go for that one one day too though...it was interesting when he was testing with Ferrari. That could still be his "retirement" some day...maybe. |

(suppose you had to freeze the list SOMEWHERE) but no Surtees??? |

It's interesting isn't it. I just grabbed the top 8 from the winners list - thinking that was a suitable criteria - but 'bottle' comes into it too I see. I'll do off-road racer next - then come up with a 'character poll' later on. |

Yeah, pretty hard to ignore Surtees....a Champion at the ultimate level both on bikes and in cars. Incredibly difficult. NB. Schumacher now playing around with bikes; fast, but nowhere near MotoGP level. |

Yeah - I'm just planning a glamour shoot at the mo - I'm going to hire a model and do something night time artsy/grunge/ziggy stardust with the Eight Ball. Riding around scouting locations now. |

Too many young people voting! Hailwood, Read, Roberts on modern machines would give Rossi and the new bunch of bananas a run for the gold (so to speak). |

I have brumbear scheduled for the new "nut bra" ads we are doing. He will be feature in the sport nut bra section. He will be wearing the "purely pink" with blue sparkles. You can have him after that. Of course travel will be extra. |

Bcorb - The argument for rossi is the number of diffident machines and classes he has won on/in. But then so did Ago. |

Well that all turned out OK. My buddy brian's z is looking a million dollars. Defence of the No 1 post classics plate has started with a bunch of podiums using the back up motor. Broke the lightweight crank on the race engine. Classic case the Zedman. We used to tour a lot. Hard charger. Then got let down by the road surface once too often and sold his touring bikes. Bought an old Kwaka and used his considerable skills to build the National No 1 plate. (for old dungers as I tell him). I've posted pics of his shed before. Bike looks a treat. Runs 125hp at the wheel. Then after I had that shot in the bank I started to freelance with the camera. He was winning the starts with the race motor. Plenty of oldies out there too. I watched half a dozen races and headed for the hills on the CB1000R. Love this bike. Fireblade engine and Buelllish manners. The other mags have run syndicated stories from the US or UK, but I got the first one in NZ so my brief for the weekend is a quick spin - we've ridden it article. Ride impression, static shot and some detail shots. Coming back from the races I spotted the 'Vintage railway' sign. 'Photo opportunity maybe.' Well, yeah. I'll keep the really good ones for the magazine.
