I'm thinking of badgering, sorry, lets say *suggesting* to H-D/Buell Australia and my local dealer to try and do something like Inside Pass. From what I know they haven't done anything like that for quite a few years, maybe not since the Battle Trax stuff they ran when the XB9R came out (about a year before I bought my Buell, so I never went : ( )

So how big is an Inside Pass event? Is it usually a one day or half day event? Local dealer involvement? Buell involvement? How many demo bikes do they bring? How many track sessions/how long?

From what I've read the first session is ride your own bike, and then demo bikes after that? Do you pre-book which demos you'd like to ride?

I know it's a lot of questions, but I want to be armed with info before I approach Buell here. I get the impression from all the posts that they're really great events, and I'd love the opportunity to compare an 1125CR to an XB12Ss to my X1 : D. And I think it would be great exposure for Buell here : )

cheers,
chili

What I know of Inside Pass....

I believe all Inside Pass Track Days are supported by Corporate Buell. I am pretty sure Buell selects the venues to hold the event and some of these MAY be influenced by some of the local Dealers.

Buell then contracts with organizations like SportBike Track Time. STT provides the track day organization and control riders.

The event is an all day affair and the Buell bikes are supplied by a Buell Demo truck. The demo bikes are not available for the first and last sessions.

The sessions are generally divided into novice, intermediate and advanced. Each group is allotted approximately 20 minutes on the track. As always, there are exceptions. At the 25th, there were 2 novice groups and 1 intermediate/advanced group.

IS there a Buell Demo truck in Australia? If so, you may be ahead of the curve. I would say get someone at your local dealer to go up the chain to see if it can be done.

Lemon,
Take a look here http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/406 2/392061.html?1220638971

paint has the format correct. An Inside pass is very much like a regular track day except.... you get a t-shirt and knee sliders, all the drinks and snacks you can stomach and a very nice lunch. The last difference is that you get to demo Buell motorcycles in a full on track scenario.

Oh yeah, an inside pass day is cheaper than a regular track day (well at least at mid-ohio).

look at http://myinsidepass.com if you want to see pics from various events

I had read Mikef5000's post, that's the thing which made me think I really should try and see if it can happen here : )

The format sounds like most organised track days here, plus the demo bikes of course. Having an outside track day company was one thing I hadn't realised. There are a few (maybe 4 or 5?) national track day companies here who hold track days on a regular basis. Getting one of them on board with the idea might help.

I almost certain there isn't a Buell demo truck in the country, but I'm pretty sure there are H-D trucks, not sure if they're owned by H-D or the dealers.

I have talked about the idea with one of the sales guys at the local dealer, they would like to do it but I guess they want it supported or run by H-D/Buell Australia. Demo bikes would be a problem - the local dealer has one 1125R demo, no 1125R floorstock, maybe a Ulysses, and no new or demo Lightnings. H-D/Buell Australia may say it's up to the dealer to run this sort of thing, but I won't know if I don't ask, so I guess it's time to write a letter or two : ) Maybe I should write to Buell AND to the principal of the local dealer?

I meant to ask - how many demo bikes do they usually have at an Inside Pass? 5? 10? More?

Lemon,
They had 20 or so in 2007, about the same number in 2008. The bikes are numbered on the tail section, I remember seeing at least up to 15. Also some of the bikes had non number names like $ and cents

Cool, thanks. That will probably be the biggest problem doing it here, there just mightn't be enough bikes available to make it worthwhile... but I'm going to make some enquiries anyway : )
