Saturday is going to be a big day for me. You guys have been hearing me say for the last year that I want something sportier than my FXDX, which has been my motivation for hanging around here. Well, Saturday I will be able to see if that is what I really want. Several of my friends and I will be riding north out of Tampa in search of the best roads we can find up in Hernando and Citrus counties. I road up there two weeks ago with my son, me on my FXDX and him on his new Monster 696. He has since gone back to college and left his bike with me with instructions to ride it. So I will. We plan to do about 200 miles Saturday. I have ridden the Monster before, but only for short rides. This will be my first time on a bike this sporty for an extended time. By Saturday afternoon I should know if I really want a sportier bike or not. For those who haven't ridden the 696, it has a pretty aggressive riding position for a naked bike. Lots of weight on the wrists. I will have to remember to use my stomach muscles, assuming I have any, to keep the weight off my arms and wrists. I admit I am a bit nervous about taking such a long ride on the 696, but I think it is time for me to find out if I really want a sportier bike or not. Right now I am thinking an XB12XT might be a wiser choice for an old fat guy like me. Oh, and if any of you guys are familiar with the area and have some favorite roads in the Hernando and Citrus county areas, let me know. I have found a couple, but I would love to know of more. |

I am not familiar with florida but don't be nervous you will enjoy it emensly the 696 is smallish but you can thrash it pretty good it isn't as forgiving or as comfortable to me as the XB12SS but its all good and I am also an old fat guy |

the best suggestion i can make is to wait for the first saturday of the month and go for a ride with the people out of lakeland buell/hd for their morning breakfast ride. they know the roads really good and is as fun a ride that you'll find in florida. if nothing else, buellistic, rich or some of those other guys can point you in the right direction. have fun and stay safe up there. |

Yes, I rode with the Lakeland group last month. It was much fun. Nice guys, although I didn't catch names very well. I plan to ride with them again soon, but I think they are riding on a Sunday next time, which I can't make. Next time they do a Saturday though, I'll be there. Maybe on the baby duck. |

Dyna, I know of a "few" roads in the Citrus/North Hernando area... Unfortunately I have to work this weekend. But I am off next weekend. Some hints: Go early, traffic is much better and you are less likely to run into John Law. |

Good luck Nev. Hope the job thing works out for you. Paint, maybe you and I can ride sometime. You might not want to ride with us this weekend anyway. Everyone else will be on cruisers and a couple are new riders. You'd be more than welcome though. Maybe another time. Dan |

Funny I was thinking a FXDX with mids is the next bike. I got a passenger that will put me out of the XR1200 market (you know as soon as I commit to buying one, they will release that bike for US consumption) |

might be a wiser choice for an old fat guy like me. Hey! I resemble that comment! After reading the KTM 690 Duke and Monster 696 comparison I thought the CityX would be a perfect bike to compare with those. Price wise the CityX is slightly cheaper and has a slight power advantage. |

OK - I do have to admit that I was to be sent to the Regional launch of the 696 - but I went and sat on a bigger monster first - and I declined the gig - even though it was a ride through the roads of my youth. We sent 'Racing' Dave whom it fitted. |
