The Great Smoky Mountains are a little less colorful now.
A great true Mountaineer has passed.
My Uncle Jimmy died last night he was nearly 80.
No one knows why or how just yet.
He was supposed to pick up my folks and his girlfriend (of 50 years!) last night at 10:00pm.
He didn't show. Linda's (Jimmy's girlfriend) brother works at the Asheville airport with Linda, and since he was getting off gave everyone a ride home.
When Linda got home she found Jimmy slumped over.
He wasn't sick, that we know of, and felt fine.
He was a Mason, member of the Lion's Club, and helped build Fairview, and the whole Candler area, back when dirt floors were the norm for many. He helped many get a floor when they weren't a priority.
He was always willing to help.
He was also a True Rebel.
Other than myself he was the last motorcyclist in the family.
He, like other True Mountaineers, was soft spoken, self reliant, stubborn, and never had an ill word to say.
I miss him.
I'll be off line maybe a little while.
I image the Appalachians are a bit quieter this morning.
I'm homesick like never before.

What a great story and I'm sure there's much more. Had a uncle myself with a similar story.
Another great one gone.....not many of those left.

Sorry for your loss!
