Jim, first thing we need to do is pick a date, so interested parties can start securing vacation time.

would you contact Chris and Loni and see if they'd like to help spearhead the planning for this deal?

Ok you can count me in on this one!

Did a little recon today of some other options of roads heading in that direction.

If one departes out of Battleground, WA heading up 503 the roads are wide, twisty and oh so much fun and it will dump ya right into Couger!

There is another option out of Battleground that will take one through Yacolt (Remember Ferris when we did the first run on the bikes before Blue Groove NW and stooped and had burgers and beers at that little bar?) and then into Amboy on up to Couger.

Ferris,

Do you have direct contact info for Chris and Loni?

If next July is anything like this July, the better weather may be had towards the end of the month.

Jim

PS- I have no idea why my last post posted as anonymous?

(Gathering and tieing several thread's responses under this heading.)

Ferris,
Not to worry on the long distance award, due to a variety of reasons I'll most likely be trailering the bike(s) on this next trip (if classes go as planned, if other things continue to go fairly well, and if nothing major happens to disrupt the long range planning process).

Spudman,
Thanks for the accomodations offer. But I've got relatives near Silverton and in Salem, as well as several an hour or three from St. Helens in Washington depending on the route taken. So, if things go as planned (see previous paragraph) I'll probably be covered. This should open up a slot at your place for some other relocatee from the Evergreen region.

Okay, time for me to get back to work so as not to disrupt the plans.

Ferris, Do you have direct contact info for Chris and Loni?

Jim, there's a goldmine of contact info in the Northwest threads in Storm Fronts.

i just posted a teaser on there, and would like to concentrate all significant SuperSPLASH chat here on the Quick Board, for several reasons.

anyway, please touch bases with Chris and Loni Taylor, and let's get this show on the road, eh? :)

hey Spudman, Roc, Jim, Chris/Loni etc., do we know anyone who has a nice ski boat we could use on Friday for a day-long picnic/party at the lake there in Woodland?

also Jim, i'm gonna shoot you an e-mail with Ricker's new phone # there in KFalls (i don't think he's back online yet); would you call him and bring him up to speed on what we're up to? thanks!

Ferris, et al; Chris and Loni email VtwinsRus@aol.com
or call em 360-896-3167 or 7459
We talked at our last BRAG meeting about the weekend of July 19th for SPLASH as I recall. Need to hook Bob and Debbie into this as well. Bob had a super route this year, part of which aint on no steenkin maps (like dirt man, not long, but made a connection between hidden, almost abandoned paved forest roads). Yeah, and smoke out Gootch to speak for the Canook mob. They sure got some great folks up there.

hey thanks Shotgun! cuzzins Bob and Deb should be getting back from the Colorado/Bonneville party anytime now, and if there were ever two people who can liven things up in a hurry (um, 'specially if they've been, uh, hitting the sauce...), it's them :)

the exact weekend in July isn't critical to me, but it might be for other folks in terms of vacation planning, etc.

back in SPLASH's formative years, i always scheduled it for the third weekend in July, partly, as Jim alluded to above, to increase the odds of good weather.

lotta good it did LAST time, as we struggled to get everyone over the volcano and up to Packwood without losing any extremities to f-f-f-frostbite!

so Shotgun, would you ping Bob 'n Deb and get them sucked into this deal? thanks!

As a Canuck, and as a participant in SPLASH 2002, I'm just wondering why it's now being referred to as Super SPLASH? I'm not sure the riding gets any better than the '02 foolishness! What's up?

I may be speaking out of turn here, but I think the "super" refers to bringing in more riders from farther away. Let's see, S U P E R: So You People who relocated Elsewhere away from the NorthWest will Return for this upcoming SPLASH ride. Hmmm, my acronym generator seems to be broken, I'll let someone else come up with something better.

I think one of the "several reasons" that Ferris mentions as to carrying on this dialogue here on the quick board is to get the attention of some of the legendary names from, oh, maybe Texas, or NYC, or I dunno. If we get enough we can split into two groups, a sport group and a touring group, like those foreign bikers did a few years ago. Then I could lead the touring group and I wouldn't have to be shamed by all those fast guys on their bikes with all those extra cylinders.

"... do we know anyone who has a nice ski boat we could use on Friday for a day-long picnic/party at the lake there in Woodland?"

Well it's nothing special but probably nice enough for this bunch. I have a 19' SeaRay, open bow, seats 8, new 4.3L V6 this year. We could definitely stir up the lake and piss off the locals. Also have skis, knee board, wake board and tubes to drag whoever behind the boat. Just let me know and it's there.

Jim, i got a nice e-mail from Chris and Loni last night; they're ALL over this deal! still, give 'em a holler; you guys live so close to each other and all.

Bib, the term "SuperSPLASH" is Mikej's idea, pretty much for the reason outlined in his world's-longest acronym above. i like it!

looking forward to meeting and riding with you and the rest of the Canadian Contingent next year. anybody in contact with Hoser up in Alberta lately?

Sportyeric, maybe we need to have a separate ride called "SLASH" (Slow Lap Around St. Helens) for you pokey TOURING types? ;)

Spudman, major coolness on the boat deal! i think it'd be fun to set up shop there at Horseshoe Lake in the morning on Friday, and swim, ski, float, tan (oops, sorry, lost my head for a second...), etc.

and back to Jim: hey, i thought FERRIS was the man! :(

Hey Ferris,
Why no personal profile?

I think it's a great idea to start planning now and make this thing SUPER. If there are more riders it also helps the "no chase" theory.
If you need any help from up here, let me know.

ladies and germs, my new/old buddy Dino had the honor of RAMMING a deer with his brandy-new Liquid Silver FZ Sunday evening up on the Western Divide Highway.

i'm pleased to report that his scooter seems to have come thru the collison unscathed, as, apparently, did the deer.

Dino, on the other hand, was never right to begin with, and i'm afraid things haven't improved any since his encounter.

still, i find him quite, um, ah, endeering.

I think we've only bagged one to date. That would have been Deb's trophy, and it was just a little bugger. Hardly counted. Wouldn't have even happened if she hadn't been carrying so much bad karma that weekend. (God had it in for her that weekend. Surprised He hadn't rustled up a moose!)

Sportyeric,

I know the feeling (bad karma). I'd never had a deer problem before. Bought a new scoot about a month ago and have been viciously attacked twice. One near miss...according to Ferris, who was guarding my six, that miss could best be measured with a feeler gauge. Sunday night was pretty much a center-punch. I'm starting to get a little paranoid.

OK, It's time to get serious!

Laguna Seca is when in July?
Local Triumph Dealerships have a ride called the Volcano Raid (Original huh) They usually have 30 or more bikes and it would be nice not sharing the same weekend. I'll find out the dates on that.

Time to drag Stuart into this and get him checking on dates as well. It probly is going to depend on the Canadians when it comes down to it!

Ferris, I tried calling you, Can you E-mail me your #?

Chris, We need to talk about Packwood on Saturday or find out if anyone is interested in our Diabolical scheeme. (Maybe Sunday morning would be better as we would be rested. If it's truly a Super Splash, maybe we could include Sunday as a whole day event instead of everyone scrambling to get home.(Kinda like Donner)

Just a few thought comming yer way Via the Rain Forest, Bob oh ya Baby
