Today was a big day for me, and I just wanted to share.

This evening was the failed launch of SpaceX Falcon 1. http://www.spacex.com/index.php

For those of you who do not follow such things the founder of paypal took his many billions and started a private space launch company. Tonight's launch was officially a test launch for a new vehicle. It did have several small payloads. One governmental, and one the press have over looked.

It was carrying a payload from Services Inc. (also known as Memorial Space Flights). http://www.memorialspaceflights.com/

These are the people who facilitate putting loved one's ashes into space.

A good friend of mine was on board.

Pete was like a father to me, and some of my fondest childhood memories involved him. He passed away about a year ago from heart complications.
Throughout his life flying was his passion. Aviation was his life. The one thing he never got to do was travel in space (not for lack of trying).

This was his final wish.

Today that wish was mostly granted. There was an "anomaly" with the flight, but from what we have been told it basically reached space first.

So I ask everyone to raise a glass to someone very important to me. Pete I hope you enjoyed your flight

Please take a moment to read about Pete.

For those of you who are Trekkie fans, James Doohan (Scotty) was a fellow passenger.
The entire passenger list can be found here http://www.celestisexplorersflight.com/ under "featured participants"

Here's to Pete!

Sounds like he was a very special guy. It is great that he got to live his dream, and had close family and friends to help him get to the final step. What a tribute!

Thanks for sharing.

I'm sorry for your loss.

I can't help but imagine how far the cost of that space-interment would have gone in helping the hungry, the battle-injured vets or displaced orphans in the world of the living, in a legacy in a decedent's name.

Either way, we're still all hurtling through space, and are all (in the words of Moby) "made of stars"

Thank you for all the kind words, they are a true testament to what a great group we have.

CM- I was EXTREMELY respectful.
Reread my posts...both of them
I meant no disrespect to the deceased.
Sometimes, people will broach an idea that may be new to you- doesn't mean they're being disrespectful.
