I totally dig the styling and the power of this thing. But other than drag racing, what good is a naked ~550 LB bike with a 60+ inch wheelbase? I mean, would this thing be any fun at a track day? The specs... The price?... Anyone know? Nice power and torque numbers, but at what RPM? |

Blake- I'd guess the HP peak would be in the 5500 rpm neighborhood (give or take a couple hundred revs) based on the peak HP & torque numbers. Should we start a pool? -Saro |

Rigid mounted engine? If so is it counterbalanced? I'd sure hope so. |

confederates start over 20K I know that much. I prefer the "look" of this fattracker to the confederate bikes but that's just me |

Blake: Cap's GT really surprized me. If this bike is any better, it could be a whole lot of fun! Vik |

If I had the coin to drop, I'd much prefer one of Nallin Racing's Street Trackers with 340 LB wet weight with 120 RWHP and 114 FT-LB torque. |

Vik, With all that power, it would have to be fun eh? And you KNOW there's a guy in Colorado with a dyno that is wanting one of these. |

I like the Confederate. The styling is fresh and takes the big twin in a totally different direction than everyone else in the clone game. If I had the shekels, one would be in my garage before a big Harley would. Track days would be out of the question! |

They were not counterbalanced previously. I'm sure they are not now. They had been using S&S motors which have a reputation of well balanced flywheels & most indicate that they are actually pretty smooth even in a rigid mounted configuration. Much smoother than a stock 1200 Sportster which is perhaps the worst as far as any of the 45 degree twins. Some reports of earlier models were very complimentary regarding smoothness, fun, handling, etc. But, no they don't have the lean angle of a Cyclone let alone a Firebolt. Looks like they are using something other than an S&S motor now. I've seen a few here in Orlando, one at the dragstrip, & they have had displays in Daytona during bike week. Dave |

I'm with you Blake, I prefer the Nallin's Street Trackers even with their most mild engine. But the Confederates are quite unique. The Confederates I've seen in person have been very impressive. |

Is that a muffler between the tranny and rear tire? |

The 113" Hellcats started at 23k a couple years ago. There is an extensive list of options usually. Some things have changed. The old one had 28 deg rake, 120/70zr17 on front and a 190/55zr17 on the rear. Looks like they're still catering to the fatter is cooler wannabee crowd with that 240. I'd prefer the old combo. Will turn so much better. Glad they got rid of the speedo built into the headlight. Couldn't read the damn thing. The new light arrangment is kinda, hmmm...yeah, right... What stays the same is the rigid mount big twin (probably still by S&S with a 120" Merch as an option) with the over/under design tranny. (Yep the short primary is deceiving in that some will think its a sporty case.) Glad to see they're not using those 4-3/8" strokers anymore. No balance shafts. Sorry, Blake. Can't believe they still insist on supplying them with forward controls. Fwd controls suck. I've heard they have mids but u gotta ask for them. And they still haven't fixed the problem with the exhaust giving your inner thigh 3rd degree burns. They used to not come with heat shields at all much less those tiny little "spot" heat shields. Not meant to compete with Buell. It's a toy for throttle jockey chromed iron freaks, nothing more. The torque peaks aroud 2400 and HP craps out at 5500. A real narrow band. I rode a 100" GT America back in 99. It IS a FUN bike. And I still like the Hellcat for what it is. This one looks like it has come a long way, but for those who really ride, some ergos would still need to change. |

The tank looks awesome. I always thought that if they tightened up their geometry a bit (say, closer to the 57 in wheel base arena) they's have a really nice neo/standard category bike...though I don't think that word applies to it ;^D Hellcats have always reminded me of Egli Vincents for some reason... |

One of the bike mags did a review on one. They liked it alot but it shook so bad several parts fell off including the tail-light. |

Ask the man who owns one... Forward controls and poor ground clearance are the main things I'd change on my '98. It looks like the new swingarm is changed dramatically, that may improve ground clearance. The drivetrain looks to be unchanged, and that's a good thing because the power delivery and shifting are simply the best I've ever experienced on a Big Twin (mine's a 113" S&S). r-t |

Maybe I'll cut the upper frame off my S1 just aft of the oil tank....pitch the seat and base....then a trip to the bicycle shop for a seat from a Schwinn cruiser...anybody make a wider triple tree for inverted forks so I can mout a rear rim on the front with 180 rubber???....VOILA!!!! My very own BuHellCat.... |

Anony, Your S1 has 135 HP? And the Hellcat's front tire is a 130/60-18, completely different from an S1's rear tire. I can certainly see why you post anonymously. |

Not my cup of tea. In my mind it would be way better to pick up a cheap S1 (easy) and throw a few grand into an Axtell Mountain Motor.......WAIT, THAT'S WHAT I DID!!!! My 88" is putting out somewhat less power (110 HP & 100 lbs, all measured at the rear wheel by the way) but I have more work to do. With the weight and handling difference (and money difference) it's an easy choice for me. If it's too much trouble to do it yourself, I may be putting my 79" Axtell motored S1 for sale. That'd be even cheaper. bighairyralph |

Why so hard to belive? The previous version was 500 lbs dry. A sporty off the showroom floor is 500 lbs dry. This bike has a single seat, no tail, oil storage in the main frame tube, twice the amount of aluminum goodies than the sporty and far fewer brackets because of better parts consolodation. 485 lbs is very believable. U know, if they would have put the battery between the shocks instead of between the tire and tranny, they could have tucked the rear tire in about 4" for a 56" wheelbase. It needs rearsets too. |

I like the Hellcat but according to MCN this week, Sachs are putting into production a limited run of Beasts using the Folan V1000 motor that's used in the Highlander (I think) big traile. Also the Munch Mammoth is going into production and I think Sachs have landed a contract to build them too. As for the Hellcat, I'd have died for one when I was in my twenties. I'd like to see one on a track day, why not. They'll shift that's for sure and I'll bet they'll handle some too ! Still, it's not for me, I couldn't afford the tyres Rocket |

...what good is a naked ~550 LB bike with a 60+ inch wheelbase? I mean, would this thing be any fun at a track day? hi Blake, i'll bite what good is ANY motorcycle? or, more apropos to your question, what good is an S1? as an all-around, day-in, day-out motorcycle, an S1 Lightning wouldn't be ANYbody's first choice. (flame suit: ON!) but the damn thing's fun, unique, and guaranteed to rival Viagra when it comes to keeping your package at attention. and i'm quite positive from the pix you posted the G2 SF has the same effect. the Hellcat looks to me like an Erik Buell Skunkworks, Inc. S1 Lightning project, something he'd unleash on us poor, unsuspecting Hooligans if only Harley had a clue as to his real genius for knowing what us poor, unsuspecting Hooligans truly want. as for track days, you guys pony up the money for one, and i'll take it out and flog the pee out of it and let you know what i think. bet i could snag a BattleTrax plaque or two with it, too, 60-inch wheelbase be damned FB |

i'll tell you what else the Hellcat would be great for: y'all come rippin' into this Saturday morning's stand-around at your local Hog dealer on this bad boy, all smoke, fire and brimstone, and tell me you wouldn't just immediately OWN the frikkin' place! if this bike didn't get you some, um, ah.......if it didn't secure you an evening of delightful one-on-one intimacy with the leather-clad vixen of your choice, YOU, sir, have a definite problem. no, i'm not sure where she'd sit, either..................... |
