It is with great sadness that I report that our brother, John "Tombstone" D'Abbraccio passed away this past Sunday due to his battle with kidney disease. John was the second member of our club to buy a Buell. When his health was failing and he felt he could no longer handle his Sportster he went and bought himself a Buell Blast, because he much rather ride than drive a car.

Unfortunately, John only got to ride his bike ONCE, and that was a few times around the block last June. He had the foresight to have a friend video the occasion and we have it up at our website here:

http://www.nassauwings.org/videos/2007/0602-Tombst onesRide.avi

His eyesight was failing and he never got a chance to ride it again.

After more years than I could imagine on dialysis, the doctors FINALLY found him a matching donor, and John went into the hospital for the long overdue transplant. Unfortunately, due to his weakened state, the transplant was ultimately rejected and John was in for the fight of his life. Unfortunately, it was a fight he lost at 3:30 Sunday afternoon, March 30.

The Nassau Wings Motorcycle Club will be hosting a fundraiser for John's family on April 26, 2008. If you live in the Long Island area you are welcome to join us. Details are on our web page at http://www.nassauwings.org/

If you can't come, but feel like you want to do something, we have a fundraiser link on our main page.

God speed, John. I hear the roads are smooth, clean, dry and VERY TWISTY where you are now. Until we ride together again, Brother!

Tis hits really, REALLY close to my heart. Don't forget about his family who went through the years of dialysis with him.

My thoughts and prayers out to all involved. Ride the good ride, brother John.

U4euh, me too. My Dad died in almost the exact same circumstances back in '86. This was too much Deja Vu for me.

He's rippin' up the best roads ever now, so smile for him as he's in a MUCH better place. No more pain, fear, sadness...

My prayers go out to his family and friends to help them through this tough time. I hope they can focus on the good memories and be grateful that he touched their lives.

Its a sad thing when these situations happen. I didnt know the fella but my condolances go out to all who knew him and those who will miss him. Take comfort in the knowledge that he already knows the road we all have yet to ride.

It's not a ride, it's a Bowling fund raiser. Because of the unpredictability of the weather this early in the Spring, we figured an indoor activity would be best. Plus, we could attract those friends and family of his who don't ride to come down and participate too.

This flyer was made up when he was still alive and we had hope:
http://www.nassauwings.org/pdf/TombstoneBenefit-Fl yer.pdf

We are still having the fund raiser to help out his family because they have some enormous medical expenses to deal with now in addition to funeral costs and (most importantly) the loss of a loved one.

Thanks again for all of your kind thoughts. I am going to print this thread off tomorrow before going to the wake and present it to his sister. I'm sure they'll appreciate reading all of the thoughts from his fellow Buellers whom he never got the chance to meet himself.

This photo was taken when Tombstone just picked up his new baby back in 2005. Even then he had it delivered rather than ride it because he just didn't trust himself yet. Damn. It doesn't seem that long ago.
