This is my 7 year old nephew. He has been waiting since Christmas to ride his new bike. (he lives in Philly with a very small yard) For Easter, my brother brought Ryan (my nephew) and his bike to our Dad's house (30+acres in WV). He rode all day Fri. and all day Sat. It was amazing how much his skills improved in that time. They had to head back to Philly Sunday morning. It was 28 degrees but he was out riding his bike as soon as it was light. My brother finally had to pull him off the bike and put him in the truck for the trip home at 9:30. My brother, my Dad and I had almost as much fun watching him as he had riding. Brought back a lot of memories of our first bikes. Dad had his yard re-done last year. It looks like a flat track after this weekend.

Hey, I had one of those as a wee little jester. My first bike too, jest loved it. I missed it so much I got another one, I use it as a pit-bike at the speed way. Neighbors get a good laugh at the little old(50)fat guy riding his mini-bike round and a round the yard. Its now powered by a 6.5 Honda, wheelie monster it is.

Buell(H.D.) should make mini's for the kiddies. Hook um real young, branded for life, long live the Mother Ship

He already asked me if I could put a bigger engine on it next year. Must be something in the genes.

that's the best way to start out right there. had to share with 3 other brothers as a kid.

we had a neighbor down the street that put a 125 motor on a mini bike frame. never did seem to run that good though.

I started with one just like that - about 40 years ago.

I started with a very similar one (also about 40 years ago). Mine was a C.A.T. brand bike with a 3-1/2 HP Briggs & Stratton engine. I worked one summer driving a tractor on a neighbor's tobacco farm making $5 a day, saved up and bought it at the end of the summer for $99.95 IIRC. I learned a lot about changing oil, cleaning plugs, repairing #35 chains, cantankerous centrifugal clutches, throttle cables, and why suspensions would be a nice thing to have on 2-wheeled vehicles (my CAT had absolutely none).

There's very little that makes me grin as much as watching my son have so much fun.
"Motorcycle crack"
Yep, we deal in that!

This is Cody, my youngest on Uncle Charlie's (New12r) 50.

i must be the only one who cut their two wheeled teeth on the mean streetz. when i was 11 i some how conned my mom into buying me the neighbors moped from their yard sale. it was 50 bucks and had rotted tires. we took it to get new tires at a moped shop, bought a helmet and 2 stroke oil by the case and i was off.....kinda. i was too young to get a moped license (14 minimum age), so i was only to ride on our dead end street, 2/10 of a mile of pure riding freedom! got my permits when i turned 14, sold it for 50 bucks to the kid up the street when i got my first car. they moved away, have no idea what happened to my first ride. it was a 1978 Puch Newport. mine was silver, but you get the idea.

Mine was 2HP briggs in a Rupp frame.
I used to WASTE mopeds on the thing when I was 11.
It was geared tall so they would own me off the line but I would reel them in at the 1/8 mile : )

No helmet, no brakes. Yep my parents loved me!

The best thing?

I STILL OWN IT!!
Add gas, three pulls of the rope and it will thump to life : )

I remember like it was yesterday (literally) learning to ride on my cousins 72 SL 70. Dad took me to the Yamaha shop and I purchased a 73 LT3 100 enduro. Back in the day most of the neighborhood kids had dirt bikes. We would get home from school, throw our books on the table and meet at the local trails and head out till sunset. More I think about it, not much has changed.

My son (99cyclone) started out on a Yamaha LT2. He spent a lot of time on that bike before moving up through various XL, RM, PE, and CR dirt bikes. He had a XS650, a GS750, then a '99 M2 which started our Buell obsession.

I started off with one of these.

Bought new in '77, until now only new bike I've ever owned.

That changes on Friday!

I started off on a Suzuki RM 75. I know I did, even if I can't find evidence on the web that it ever existed. I am not sure but I think it was about a 1972-74. Man did I ride the wheels off that thing. Just about literally.
