No, I'm not making this up. Not Erik, but Dexter. He is a rather eccentric artist. The G photo: http://www.albany.edu/museum/wwwmuseum/work/buell/ index.html
quote:Dexter Buell exhibits a 15-foot wooden wheel fabricated in his studio. In an accompanying video, Buell runs inside the wheel until it spins out of control and he is jettisoned across the studio. Reflecting on his Sisyphean efforts, Buell offers a perspective shared by the other artists in Work. He says: "In the face of the mass produced image, the one that is carefully constructed by an individual in time is the thing that can stand out in opposition to the huge tide, not necessarily in its permanence but in its poignancy."

It sure as hell isn't 15 foot tall unless he him self is 10 foot judging by the pictures. All I can say is it looks more like an over grown mouse tread mill built in any jr.high school wood shop class. If I had a wood stove I might be able to heat the shop for about 1/2 a day with it. But then again in todays world it is good to see a youngster do something constructive with their time. |
