I'm considering going the single headlight route to my Sportster with XB forks, and I've been trying to find out what the inside diameter of the inverted Tuber headlight clamps are.

The XB forks neck down from the 54mm diameter where the clamps are to a smaller size in between the clamps where I could mount them. From a rough measurement, that possible mounting location is 4.25" long and 51mm in diameter.

I was able to find out that the M2 clamps are about 45mm ID, so they would be too small. I don't have access to a tuber, so I have no way of measuring the diameter of where the clamps mount.

Does the fork leg in fact neck down in between the 54mm spots for the triple clamps? Does anybody have that diameter, or even the circumference around the tube?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think the XB outer fork tubes are tapered too so watch out for that.

Puddlepirate,

The X1 fork is a straight 45mm all the way to the dust seal.

I road race an XB and I made some tapered spacers that allow you to clamp 54mm clip ons to the 50mm apered portion. you can do the same with the sporty legs, Just pick up a 12 pack and find a buddy with a lathe and some tube stock you can turn down to a 54mm o.d., and 39mm I.D. Cut the tube in half along its axis and you have two spacers. This method works well with clip ons, so it should support a headlight mount easily.

So the tuber inverted forks are in fact one diameter the entire way down, not tapered at all in between the clamps?

I haven't been able to see with my own eyes, but in pictures it looks like they neck down where the headlights mount, go back to 54mm for the lower triple, and then start necking down again as they get closer to the dust seal.

Sorta, yes, through the triples, and, for 1 inch below the lower triple(if the top of the fork is even with the top clamp)..

Then, it tapers down to 48mm right before the rises in for the seals..

For the purpose of headlight clamps, yes, you need 54mm clamps...
