Hope im in the right cat. But i have an 02 X1 Fi and i sprung a good oil leak a few weeks ago. It only leaks when it warms up and i decided to tear it apart. Ive came to the conclusion that its the oil pump or cam cover leaking. Problem is i went ahead and tore it apart. when i pulled the cam cover off a few of the cams fell out. Now i need some help on how to put the cams back in? Sort of lost here and need some good help. Respond or email me at Cturboaddict@aol.com

after
a. unloading valve train / remove lifters
b. remove the plugs

id the cams

The '01 cams are marked 15-1, 15-2, 15-3 15-4 on the lobes yours will likely be the same it is important to id them correctly so that they are put in the correct position.
15-4 front exhaust
15-3 front intake
15-2 rear intake
15-1 rear exhaust
15-2 is driven by the pinion on the crank
a mark on the pinion gear lines up with #2
two other dot marks line up with 1 & 3 the dots on 3 when correct allow #4 to line up

THE MARKS ARE ROUND DOTS ( DRILL MARKS )

HERE'S THE GIST sorry caps lock on not shouting..

IIRC 1-3-4 first line up 2
these should not go easily as the busings are a close fit, this is sorta like safe crackingwiggle and giggle to get a fit.

oh yeah gear case gasket # 25263-90c

I hope that this helps YMMV.

There is / was an electronic S1 manual here some where it will be a suitable reference, one last thing think about getting the bronze oil pump drive gear
OR check the steel one thats there now these are known to shred if that happens you loose the oil pump / motor.

its not bad getting it all lined back up take your time and look closely as you go.

From the porch.

PS turbo you can do further searching in the KV.
for additional info

Don't need to remove lifters, just push them up in bores.Must be at TDC on #1.Not hard to do.

Magnets work well to hold the lifters out of the way, just set them on top of the lifter blocks. Also, if you have the bucks (about $95,IIRC)...invest in a set of quick-install pushrods from Screamin' Eagle. Keeps you from having to remove the rockers, etc, next time you're in the cam area - you can shorten the pushrods and remove them out the sides (they have split tubes too, like the Evo big twins) and you save the money and hassle of dealing with rockerbox gaskets, etc.
