ok, so I suck at looking things up in the KV. i was wondering if i could get some help on my S3. what i want to do is update my primary parts. i ordered the thicker chain tensioner so far. i seem to remember an updated shifter plate & some problem with a clip that breaks easily?? anyone with part numbers out there would be great. thanks |

There's an updated detent, and you'll want to replace the clip that holds it. There are pins on the shift drum that may need attention if they are uneven, and you may want to put a new spring on the detent arm. Also, in 2000 the 2nd gear ratio was changed so that the ratio isn't a mile from first gear. There's a spring plate in the clutch pack that commonly takes a crap that may need replacement. Any noticeable looseness means it's done. You can add a couple steel and one friction plate in its place, but it makes for a narrow range and abrupt engagement. Just have your parts guy look up an '00 or later and you'll get the updated everything. |

thanks rick. i'll get the detent, spring clip & inspect the pins. might as well just replace the clutch spring plate while i'm in there. anyone know if the baker smooth shift drum is worth it? does the new second gear ratio make it easier to hit that gear fast? i miss second gear alot when i'm cranking on it. e-butch, think my throttle body needs replaced at 17,000 miles? |
