I was wanting to put a set of releases on my buell. I was wondering if anyone has tried using a set of firstryke's on there motor. I know the Buell has 12mm and the firstryke's are 14mm, but couldn't you go to a machine shop and have them tap and thread the existing spark plug holes to work with the 14mm or would there be some kind of issue from doing this.

You would need a second set of holes drilled and tapped for the compression releases don't you? One set for spark plugs and the other for the releases?

Jack.

Why would you want to unless you're making an air pump or fitting kick start?

Do the old school push start racer's trick. Put it in second, heave back on the bars until you get it against compression, slip it in neutral, and hit the starter. That way the piston gets a running start on compression.

Thanks for the input guys. I have a 1250 kit, Stage II heads, and N8 cams. It is dragging when I push the start button. I just assumed it would be something that would help. If my battery doesn't have a very good charge, it will drain it down before it starts it.

You might have picked up a couple of ohms in your battery cables.
Make sure that your ground wire is good and tight.
Also, You might simply have a wussy battery.

I think it might be the wussy battery part. I bought a GPS battery. I'm probably going to try a new spyke, oyddysey, or big boar. Any suggestions which to buy.

My M2 often "sounded weak" at first when I started it (stock engine, 22AH battery, and starter) but would always crank through that initial slowing, spin up, and start. It only slowed in getting that first piston past compression.

It was about the same hot or cold and I always assumed that it was because the engine most often stops with a piston just coming up on or maybe even bounced back from compression. And that meant the starter had to fight that load before any inertia had built up. When the second cylinder came up on compression it had the inertia going for it.

I have seen those compression releases fitted on big inch/high compression customs with S&S and similar engines. Here is a link that discusses the issue and shows an install:
