Hi all, first time post so be gentle...

I've been looking for an exhaust for M2 that isn't going to break the bank. Of course I find them uber-cheap all over the net for the 2.5" but nothing for me. You guys have any options, ideas, links, etc?

try a wileyco, fairly inexpesnive, I think they have stuff for the early M2, sound good but not too loud, and seem to hold up well, I had one for about three years and didn't have any problems...

Well I looked at those but they list the same muffler to fit 98-02 M2 but I thought the header size was different so that made me suspicious. Can anyone clarify?

99-02 tubers use the same exhuast, (x1 and S3's had an O2 sensor bung in the rear header)..

But, I believe all 98 and older tubers used a 2 inch collector...

If you are stressed by the limited options, consider a newer header....and take advantagre of the options for the 99-02 tubers....

My 2 cents

Thanks, for all the help. I think in the long run the header upgrade would be the best. So would I just get the headers from a 99-02 M2?

IF it will work(I am sure, but not positive), I am also sure someone has done it...

Next off, for you, a header from ANY 99-02 tuber will work, as with the s3/x1 header, you just have to plug the O2 sensor bung with a short bolt...done deal...

I would also upgrade to the newer style Y bracket if you do that...

"But, I believe all 98 and older tubers used a 2 inch collector..."

I don't believe that's entirely true... didn't S1W's come with 2.5" collectors?

OK. Last question. Will a 2" collector muffler for an S1(96 - 98) fit the M2? What about the same year S2?

I think....

The only difference between the '97 S1 and M2 set-ups was the color of the lead pipe into the can. As the M2 had a black header and the S1 had a natural stainless one

ck dennis kirk on ebay. they usually have some vance and hines new old stock for various models in carbon fiber and aluminum. the header on your m2 will require that whatever muffler you use will need to have a curved pipe from the muffler to the 2" collector. i'm not sure what has to be done to put the 99 and up header on your 98. your header has the rear cylinder pipe coming over the frame support and the 99 and up goes under the bottom tube of the frame for heat related issues.
good luck,
tim
