im running an s3.

also, what are some 1/8 times you guys have pulled?

is a burnout necessary on street tires when racing motorcycles?
im coming from drag racing world of cars, so the bike racing is new to me. I know that with street tires on a car a burnout will actually hurt your tires, but was unsure if that also applied to motorcycle tires

Spin it for 5 sec to 10 sec max. Just to clean the shite off the tire. No need to smoke the thing up wildly. Just get it clean. The launch area should be sticky if enough cars run before you.

It's great if some promods or funnies run during the day. They'll put down good sticky rubber and probably will have used some VHT traction compound. Just line up in their rubber.

Depends on the tire and how fast you're cycling (making passes). Make sure you don't get in the water of course.
I always made the first pass just to get settled in and start warming the tires. the 3rd and subsequent passes would be "for good" tho I'd need a cool down for the tires after the 5th.
But that was with sport-touring tires.

If you are at the drag strip and it is anything like the one at Hallsville, Texas you don't need any kind of burnout. There is so much of that super tacky stuff on the pavement you are lucky to leave the line with your boots still on.

We had some pics posted recently of some poor unfortunate souls who had tried to do a burnout on their motorcycle. They flipped the bike in the blink of an eye.

No burnout needed at the drag strip on a street bike.

I agree with no burnout. The tracks I've raced one were so sticky from the rubber laid down by the cars, no burnout was necessary.

I did do some burnouts just for fun, though.

Car racing!!??? Durnit, I thought this was gonna have some pictures of guys who looked like fulbacks running in high heels, and wearing ball gowns. You know, Drag racing.

Talk about burn outs, have you ever seen THOSE guys?

I think the sticky surface is actually a compound purposefully applied. I saw the track crew spraying the stuff on asphalt in the staging area. It is like black contact cement and will darn near rip off your boots if you try to lift your feet of the pavement in a hurry.

You can do a burnout for effect, just be sure to do it way back before the staging area where the stickum has not been applied.

With Milleniums and a HSR42 on the S1 I rode
1.997 on the 60"
7.820 on the 1/8 with 145.16 km/h
12.227 on the 1/4 with 170.62 km/h
last year on a track with not that much grip.
Last friday with the S1, now with 90" Milleniums, red shift 585, roller rockers, HSR45 and a 7" longer swing arm
2.007 on the 60"
7.528 on the 1/8 with 156.52 km/h
11.582 on the 1/4 with 189.47 km/h
A lot of wheelspin even after a serieus burnout.
I hope to go in the 10's in a couple of weeks on the sprayed and dry track ; )

so by your times it seems that you take your 1/8 time, add half, and then add a little more, like half a second, to get your 1/4?

I always wanted to run my bike in the 1/4 mile but I don't know how to launch it without losing it in a wheelie. 3000 RPM and a clutch dump would result in an expensive/embarrasing mistake. I would lose a second or two on a smoother launch....Den

Denfromphilly. Do not dump the clutch. Pick up your feet quickly and ride the clutch to keep the front end light but grounded. With a Buell, you do not need a lot of RPMs off the line. You have 80% of torque at 2800rpm.

I must admit, I have not had the M2 on the track but I do like to play on a straight stretch of country road that someone has marked off a quarter mile. On a cool day with little wind, I broke 120mph on the speedo. Corrected speed would be very close to S1s.

The Nighthawk is slower, I do good to get it over 110mph. The only time I had it on the strip, it had the windshield and sissybar bag on it, not to mention a 30 knot head wind. It would do good to about 80mph and quit. One day I have to try it again with both bikes and leave the tour pack at home.

well went to track today
pulled 8.0 in the 1/8 and then finished with a 13.4 in the 1/4 at 110mph, im happy! i cant wait to get more seat time and decrease these times

easyrider-nl and I had a good time in Belgium.
About 30 runs in just one week end!
Although the track was slippery in the beginning the second day we had good traction. Too bad the temperature went up and the engines where not as fast anymore.
My best 60" was a 1.76s, best speed with a little tail wind 208 km/h and best 1/4 mile 10.843s
Friday 8th of july another test and tune evening on the official strip at Drachten and one week later the MPM main event.
It would be nice to have some 10's during that event.
