This ebay guy has a 99% positive rating and has recently started selling a lot of carbon fiber:

I will let you know in a week or so when I get the piece I won from him. If it's good I'll sell the custom paint set I have and buy carbon instead. I like carbon fiber.

All:
Some folks had good luck. I had mixed luck, please see the earlier carbon fiber thread.
if you want check out American Sport Bike, as well. The carbon I got did not fit too good, as near as I can find out it all comes from one or 2 places in the orient. Mine has waves, dips, bubbles and other surface flaws.

Fit:

The lower protectors require some fiddling with if you use a plastic tank cover.
When you buy the fiber tank cover get out your tools you WILLbe whittling

Both OCbueller and myself had to cut the mating pieces and the covers to get a fit up.
Also most of the vendors of the stuff are asking payment through andale rather than PAY-PAL
so watch out If you purchase use PAY-PAL
I have an outstanding no part for money complaint against a firm peddling the stuff
Im' out $125.00 and they have folded the tent and are gone.

please don't misunderstand I don't mean to sound arrogant I want to spare any one the same problem that I had Al at asb has made an effort to educate me as have a number of others

in any event to answer your question no I have
not purchased this vendors carbon

but i would do so only with caution
Caveot Emtor Buyer beware

Thanks.

Apparently, I have 4 days from the receipt of the items to look them over for any problems or defects. Then, at my own shipping cost, I could exchange items if there is a problem or defect.

I'll let you know how it goes.

my rear fender was missing a mtg hole and the other holes are too small anyhow! the seller is no longer listed on ebay, then this seller pops up, changed names, same crap. looks ok on the surface, but not nearly as thick or strong as the "good" stuff!

i got it cheap enough, i don't feel too bad about it.

Oldog,

Did you get the bad CF from American Sport Bike? Your post is not clear on this to me as I have no knowledge of the history of your experience.

Oldog got his carbon fiber from one of the fly by night e-bay sellers not American Sport Bike. You can be guaranteed to get very high quality CF if you buy from American Sport Bike. I have seen the stuff being sold on e-bay in person. It is very, very cheap CF. It is fiberglass with just a very thin layer of carbon fiber on the surface. You get what you pay for!!

as you can see here my stuff from American Sport Bike was not a perfect fit either. service was good, but it is just not cool to have to make the stuff fit first ... Nonetheless i am sure it is better than the crap sold on eGay.

I can't fault any of the carbon parts that I have got from American Sport Bike. The undertray has been on my X1 for almost four years now and still looks great despite being used for a daily commute for a couple of those years.

My X1 has an American Sport Bike front fender, undertail and tank accents. All of them were a perfect fit and the finish was awesome. If anybody wants an "other" brand CF rear fender for a X1 I have one available for $30. The finish is pretty good but I have no idea about the fit as I have not tried to install it.

all:
I was not referring to the goods sold by American Sport Bike
These folks seem to have a good selection and quality. Please read the other carbon fiber thread to get the "history" My desire was to attempt to save any one else from wasting money on the stuff on evil bay It is of at best fair quality Only once in a while will you find good quality stuff coming off of a parted out bike or from a paint set trade.

I do not have any American Sport Bike -CF BUT the respondents that have it ALL say it is of superior quality

The E-bay stuff I have is wavy, has surface flaws, had to be cut to fit, and is not returnable as the vendors disappeared after purchase

Further Al or someone in sales at American Sport Bike sent me a message and a link on the subject of CF. Please see the American Sport Bike site for this information its 10 minutes well spent, and I judge the technical descriptions as accurate.

I conclude that merchants like American Sport Bike stay in business by providing first class service and goods at fair prices.quality costs

TO:
Al and other American Sport Bike persons MY MOST Humble apology
for the mix up.
You guys are the Top shelf independent dealer.

Thanks for your responses to my questions and particularly as it related to CF

My best to All the ol'dog

I see that Trojan and American Sport Bike have carbon bits. Are these the same products Al?

Trojan doesn't buy any CF from us that I'm aware of. I think I'd know : ) From what I can tell, they have several different sources. I'm only personally familiar with the Ilmsberger stuff, and from what I've seen, it is good quality stuff. Can't say I was impressed with the Free Spirits frame sliders. I haven't laid eyes on a Streamline part yet, so I can't comment on the quality of that.

I just got an interesting email from someone wanting to know how to mount their X1 CF undertail at the front. The person said it looks like the ones on our site, but he didn't buy it from us. Ours has a bracket that mounts to the cast tail cross bar for holding it up in front of the tail light, and instructions for how to install it. Apparently the one he has must not have that secondary support, and didn't come with any instructions. I don't think it's one of ours.

As some have said, you generally get what you pay for. These fly by night operations making inferior products tick me off, they give the product a bad name, and many of the folks that buy the cheap stuff never learn that there IS a difference and that all CF isn't like the junk that they purchased.

American Sport Bike had some CF that wasn't up to snuff when I bought the biz. I turned those products off as I came up to speed and understood all the differences the quality stuff has. I'd just assume tell a customer we don't have a part then sell them junk.

Al

Al,

I think you have the right heart in these matters.

We had an American Sport BIke Night Coffee Ride tonight and your name and products were talked about and shown off.

When you coming up next?

...I never got my chin fairing from them, whatever they were called a few iterations ago. The peddle a alot of crap on ebay, so ebay won't help you with them. Avoid, if not for the reported poor quality, the poor customer service. American Sport Bike sells top notch stuff, my CF undertray for my M2 is an amazing piece of equipment....

Try looking at the feedback score of the guys selling the "bad" CF on Ebay. When they first showed up on the scene, I noticed they had 100% feedback rating with about 25 feedbacks. I dug a little deeper (I'm a real skeptic) by looking at the auctions for which these guys had positive feedback and discovered they had built up their feedback by purchasing COOKIE RECIPIES (all of which cost no more than $0.15 each)!!!!! They had invested less than $5.00 to bump their feedback up to "acceptable" standards for smart shoppers! These guys are CROOKS!

I received the 5 items I purchase from the Ebay listing. The rear fender was unevenly round on the back end. The tank cover had several scratches and two thumb size indentations on it. The front fender had a couple deep pit scratches and was unevenly round. The other parts were passable, but I wanted everything as a set to change the color of my bike from white to carbon.

I sent everything back to the seller, and he refunded my money yesterday. I was impressed that the guy refunded my money and didn't have a problem with me returning everything. Of course, when I emailed him asking for a refund, I sent him digital pictures of the flaws. I am sure he knew that I would post a link to the pictures in any negative feedback that I would have given him.

The stuff was passable if I would have only paid $200 for the five pieces--and if he would have sent a new tank cover. Having paid over $400, my expectations of quality were higher.
