I am trying to get my 2000 X1 suspension set up correctly. I have set the rear shock to the specs listed here on the board but can't find anything about setting up the front forks. While the bike will wheelie fairly easily in 1rst if you get into the revs first but it really won't wheelie worth a darn in 2nd. It appears that a lot of folks with X1s talk about how easy it is too wheelie. The bike runs great with a Vance and Hines pipe, race ecm and race air cleaner but it just seems to be a little front heavy. What are the fork tube heights supposed to be and what settings should the little screws on the top of the fork tubes supposed to be set at?........The bike had/has a little rear end wobble at high speed which seems more noticeable in right hand turns. I have heard that could be preload. Is that correct?...Sorry for the multiple questions but any help is appreciated. Thanks, Skip

Hi Skip : )
I've got a 2002 X1 which I've only had for a month, so anyone feel free to correct me on anything I say...
I'm still trying to get my head around the way it handles etc, but so far I've learned they seem to be pretty sensitive to tyre pressures (especially if you let the front get too low) and wheel alignment. Either and/or both of those could be simple things that might 'cause a high speed weave/wobble.
Front fork settings from my owners book are:
Rebound (top of fork) 0.5 turns out
Compression (bottom of fork) 1.25 turns out
NOTE: My book is for a 2002 X1. I don't for sure if the 2000 model is the same.

As for wheelies, I'm crap at them, so I'm no help there. My bike has 29/55 pulleys, it gets light in first but not in second.
cheers,
lemonchili

Thanks for the input Lemon but before I start changing the fork adjustments I need to know if the 2002 are the same as the 00 and if not is there anybody out there who can give me the correct settings for an '00 Lightning.

THe front forks are the same from 99-02. THe only difference is the rear shock. With the 99-00, your bike could still have the old showa with the SRP kit. The 01-02 showa is the preferred/stronger (supposedly) shock. The newer shock is physically shorter, which is why you would need the newer bracket if you replace it on the older bikes. The only other difference in the bikes is the ecm, but that only effected the 99 x-1. 2000 and up have the same stock ecm.

Thanks, I do have the upgraded rear shock already. I will follow the stock setting that lemon gave me.
