Hey all... been a min since ive been here and need some guidance. I recently re-aquired my X1 that apparently has been sitting in a shed for over a year. Changed fluids, installed new battery and she fired right up. Last week i was in the road and she died. No electric at all. Turned out it had a bad cell so i returned battery for another. All was good til this morning when i jumped on her to goto work and nothing. Pretty much the same symptoms as last time but, this time the lights will light and the fuel pump kicks on after a few seconds. I can hear the two relays click but, i bought a new one (they only had one) anyway just to see.
Same thing. The batterys holdin a charge at 12.7 with ignition on and off.
I cleaned the grounds when i first got her back.
Starter perhaps? I havent opened the clamshell yet to check start button contacts.
Thoughts?

my thought is that a battery is never just a battery. I always buy only Yuasa batts that have not been sitting forever for sale. IMO anything less is a big gamble. Look up the additional/ broken ground wire for the voltage regulator tech pub. Do that and check the charging system.

Seems you have some power to the ign system. My first thought would be to unplug the small wire at the starter ( green on my '01 X-1, IIRC ). Turn on the key switch and the start/run switch, and see if you get 12v at the wire connector when the start button is pushed. If so, the starter is probably the problem. If not, then things like the various ignition systems grounds may be suspect.

Hope this helps, Dave

Thanks for the replies.
Turns out, even thought the + terminal in the battery was tight, it wasnt tight enough. Hooked up a direct start button and saw the terminal spark when pressed. Tightened terminal screw a bit tighter and she fired up. Even used locktite prior. Perhaps a lock washer is required.
Thanks again for the words of wisdom all.

Yup I have started using a little lock tight and nor lock washers or regular lock washer years ago.
All the poor boys will be against Locktight because they are always changing batts and doing stuff to them. When it comes to batts money is not a thought for me.
Good to here. My Bitch always starts and runs right!
