Can anyone confirm that the use of the PRE RECALL shock mount in conjunction with the shorter recall shock, will lower the rear of the bike by 3/4 - 1". Or installing a 16" overall length shock, with the recall mount, will accomplish the same result? Yes the tubes will need to be slid up in the triple clamps. Yes, will need to shorten the side stand, or find an M2 LOW stand. Regards (Message edited by buelldualsport on February 28, 2016) (Message edited by buelldualsport on February 28, 2016) |

Some people have gone that route but it may lead to a bottoming out. I bought s1 and couldn't even touch the ground. More importantly my weight was not enough to overcome the front springs. I opted to get a penske shock and completely resprung/revalved the front forks. It is a night and day difference. |

I have a 2000M2 I fitted select gel seat, slipped fork tube up till as close as I could to handle bars. Fitted M2Low rear shock. That helped a bit still have stock side stand. Have risen this bike a lot of kilometers om rough to moderate road surface, hilly twisty roads, parked it in all types of condtions & with a load on , has never fallen off side stand. I think I'm close to the limit without going to solid rear strut & strap down compressed forks ( rock hard ride) |

Check these threads already posted: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/476 23/768975.html http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/476 23/768975.html The TLDR is no, that won't work really, the different shocks and mounts are practically mutually exclusive. I lowered mine by having a shop reweld the straighter type mount, can't remember if that's the older or newer one. I mounted a WP shock to that. Moving the hole for the shock on the mount just slightly rearward with the WP shock results in a 1-1/2" to 2" drop at the rear. BOY THAT WAS NICE but I have to stiffen up my shock so that I don't bottom out when I'm carrying groceries on the back. |

The M2L is about 1 1/4" shorter than the M2 kickstand (KS). The standard M2 KS is 13 1/4" from pin center to base. I just did the change after installing the M2L rear shock and front forks as well as M2L seat. Seat height decreased 2" and ground clearance decreased 1" (from about 5 1/4" to 4 1/2"). My 29" inseam legs with chunky thighs still cannot flat foot but it is much more comfortable stopping on an hill now. The photo below is not so clear (I should have taken the photo when both stands were off of the bike...). The pic of the KS alone is the M2 std height.

i have an M2L kickstand on my lowered X1... there was a difference in length. I originally had a wes-tek lowering front mount but have since went back to a stock mount with a penske adjustable shock. Front forks i have XBScg forks. Its lowered about 1.75". Planning on going back to stock height though and just purchased a set of 2010 XB forks. |

Thanks All Will try a 16" shock with the RECALL front shock mount. Once we get the seat height correct, dampening and spring rate come next. Appreciate all the assistance. |

I tried just what you are saying and the swingarm bottomed out into the body work before I could use it, so I would say, no a long shock and a recall mount aint gonna work, but go ahead and give it a try if you want. -Mike |

Don't lower it too much in the rear. I saw the results of a very heavy person riding a M2 with the suspension bottomed out. Tire wore through the oil tank! |

Appreciate the input Looking for an 3/4" to 1" lower rear. Roughly the same as the M2L factory height Regards (Message edited by Buelldualsport on March 02, 2016) |

Anyone have the part number for an OEM M2L shock? Or for that fact, the length? Regards |

The M2 Low shock part number, best I can find, is K0410.01A4A https://www.twinmotorcycles.nl/webshop/artikel.asp ?guid=YXHFSC&mc=1&aid=8475 Here is a thread with a comparison to the X1 recall shock http://badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/47623/3 27673.html X1 last/recall shock is 14.8 inches eye to eye M2 Low shock per above is 15.25 inches eye to eye As these are OEM parts, I do not expect any bottoming out issues. I'll be fudging the pre-load setting so the drop is not dramatic after the swap. I'd be happy gaining just an inch of drop. I have an M2 Low shock that I was able to locate last fall, and I am blessed with a bike that came into my hands with bar risers, so I have room to raise the tubes in the front to match. I'll post my results in a few weeks. I am SOOOOO looking forward to come to a confident / comfortable footing stop, even if it is only tripod'ing. It's tollerable as is, but scary on an inclined / crowned road or dirt / construction traffic. |

I have a M2l, but at 6'2" it doesn't need to be. I would offer to swap the rear shocks, but I'm not sure how that would affect my handling with the short forks. If we swapped both front and rear you could have the worlds only x1 with conventional forks! |

A swap of low to regular without a dressing the front would quicken steering. Do not know if dangerously so... |

X1 steering angle is already more aggressive than most other bikes at 21 degrees. I would be very cautious in altering the front end's rake angle. Don't want it to be a tank slapper machine. |

I believe sliding the forks up 1" in the triple clamps will keep the same approximate steering angle for the front. YRMV |

Lakes I believe the overall length of the M2 fork assembly is approximately 1" longer. I have not measured a set, however, that is what my memory tells me. Good Luck |

The M2L side stand is indeed an 1" shorter that the standard side stand. The one we found on ebay just arrived. Needs to be cleaned up and painted. Thanks |
