'99 X1 lightning. Ported heads. Force intake

I added the 1250 NHRS kit last year. Put it on the dyno, and the bike was lean around 3000 rpm.
Sent my stock ecm to NHRS to add a race map. ($60.00) A great deal I thought.
Got back the ecm, plugged it and, the bike wont even start. Sent it back to NHRS again. Just got it back to 2nd time and same thing. No start. just a lot of popping and back firing. Did a TPS reset and nothing!

Any ideas? PLEASE!!!

wrong map, Wrong Prom/
Find some one with a running X1/s3 and a copy of ecm spy and cable, if the numbers on their ecm case are close to yours copy theirs to yours try that

AFTER You prove your bike is ok.

BTW some where I read that there was some kind of issue with the early 99 ecm units
keep us posted....

The bike ran fine (except being lean @ 3000 rpm) before sending out the ECM. I have ecmspy and a cable, but no copy of a 99. I didn't think of copying mine, as NHRS said I wouldn't need to. Now I'm screwed.

Ask for standard and race ecm files for a re-load, here on the board. some one may have the right file...

Mine are not handy, I will be willing to send you a copy of my 2001 ecm code to try.

I can try re-loading your ecm with my code to see if it works....

BTW ask for your 60$ back....

I have checked the map we loaded into his ECM and it is perfect. It is not the map. It is something else wrong inside the ECM. This ecm was sent to me in an envelope the first time and it very well could have been damaged by the post office which I cannot be responsible for. I have offered to program another ecm (third time) for him at no charge if he can provide me with a new unit.

Just so you know.... the guys at NHRS are great people and are bending over backwards to help me. I found a used ECM from a '02 X1. I hope this will work.

It the flash on the ecm is the issue, my Ecm does the same thing.

Dan,
As a matter of course you should copy the users ECM and check it before starting any work.

There have to have been variations in the ecms over time, BTW

Spy will load the "MAPS" ( tables ) or the entire program memory,

I personally rewrote an other wise failed ecm for a board member last year, On my bike it would start and run for a bit then die, I reloaded his ecm with a stock program including maps, started up ran well, he took the ecm and it ran well.

so the ECM may be fine and your copy of the map // program is not compatible with that ECM. NEXT TIME copy it first if the ecm works when you get it and not on return you can simply re-load the original program and refund part of the customers money ( you are entitled to something for your time )
In some instances ( like this ) it would be useful to have the bike to edit the map only live on bike.....

oldog,
I have re-mapped about 50 99-03 Buell ECMs and it has never mattered what variation it was. In fact the ECM that onebad sent me and the ECM in my X1 are exactly the same variation. The only thing I am changing are the fuel and ignition tables.

Dan
I can't prove this but some where I have a recollection of stories of the 99 x1 and ecm issues, supposedly the early ecms could not be reflashed.

And My comments were not to cast doubt on your products or services,

I had an experience where some one corrupted the data in an ecm,

I tested it ( it checked normal )
but my bike and the ecm owners bike would not run long with it.
I reloaded a standard map to it
it operated normally afterward.

Your experience with this one sounds a
LOT like mine.

you could be right. At this point I just do not know as like I said it had all the same numbers and update stickers as the one I have in my bike with the same map.

To the OP: I assume this was not intended to turn into a gripe session against the folks who did the remapping for you. If that were the case you should have resolved it privately without much publicity. If your intention was/is asking for (technical) help, then you should say so and post your ECM version and ask someone with the same version ECM to send you a stock map to help put you back where you started. Mine is a 2000 X1 and FWIW I'll be the first to offer you a copy of my maps.

NRHS did my bike and mapping in my Ecm and it is top notch. My bike would not either when i got it up here from california. But that was an elevation issue and the bike runs fantastic! Top notch people and skills at NRHS!!! Thanks guys and good luck.
