I recently attempted to ordered a fuel injector for my 99 buell x1 lightning from harley davidson and was told that they are backlogged nationwide until 06-25-14. Has anyone else dealt with this and found somewhere else to get these injectors quicker than june?? |

A Buell tech from long ago told me they were from a Ford Escort or such, he had upgraded his to a bigger Ford. The part number on them even looks like a Ford number. |

I went through a lot of grief with this when sorting out my X1 last year. Bike came to me with the wrong injectors (very lean) in it - it turns out. Check out my posts from last year. I wound up putting ones from an early XB in it after confirming that they were the same. It is very important that the two injectors flow about the same rate for the motor to run in a safe AFR. Still have a pair somewhere that are pretty close (enough) that I did not use if you can't find any Also, what is wrong with the one you have? My injector cleaner guy (Jaguar Fuel Injector service, see website) can do wonders unless the injector is truly broken. It is worth the low cost to have them bench flow verified before chasing other problems. If replacing with something different, I would replace in pairs so that the single O2 sensor tune loop will be accurate. The XB injectors flowed 294cc/min at 3 bar when tested, can't remember the impedence. |

Robertb1958, How much would you want for those spare injectors? |

The '00 X1 I bought last month with only 13,500 miles on it has been challenging because it has done too much sitting. We had to remove the fuel tank and clean out some nasty gunk, then discovered the fuel pump screen was covered in what most closely resembled chocolate pudding (what's infuriating was the prior owner had just had the pump replaced by an H-D dealer, and they didn't even clean the screen). All fuel lines were checked and fuel filter replaced, but it still fell on its face at WOT. I took the injectors to Jaguar Fuel Injection Services here in Jax, and David (a consummate professional with superior customer service) tested them with a resulting flow rate of 192/153- not good. He performed a thorough cleaning which resulted in 200/304, and then he had to work some magic which thankfully gave us a final result of 308/308. Bingo! I am very impressed with David at Jaguar Fuel Injector Service, and can highly recommend him. I'm especially thankful because there are no P0786.02A8 fuel injectors available anywhere- I'd be S.O.L. waiting for replacements "sometime mid-summer" (per H-D). |

Has anyone definitely figured out alternative injectors for the X1 and 2003 XB9? There are several threads hinting at BMW R1100 and PT Cruiser injectors being used, but the threads dead end with no conclusion. I need a direct replacement, preferably without needing to modify the injector harness. I own a few BMW R bikes, but am leery to yank an injector and try it without first making sure this theory is plausible. I'm very interested in the PT Cruiser injector, as there are tons of these in the local scrap yards. What say you? |
