I still don't understand why you would want to risk using what was a flawed and potentially dangerous product that needed a very expensive recall to replace originally? Should you be unlucky enough to have an accident your insurance may not pay out and it could leave you open to an expensive repair bill or worse.

The WP shocks look nicer than the Showa, but they were replaced for a very good reason.

the shock recall was a DEBACLE.

I have firsthand experience replacing a 30K mileage with NO issues WP shock with the first recall (long) showa only to have it dangerously fail within less than 1000 miles, and that clamshell device? don't even get me started....I'll stick with my WP thank you very much.

trojan are you aware of exactly how many of these shocks failed? To my knowledge very very few, I've been told a very vocal journalist managed to cause a failure under extreme conditions and of course a young company had to go into damage control, besides this is going on a bike that sees very limited action

I have the first recall shock on my S1 and works great!
Put it on after I blew the showa replacement also!

Have not ridden a tuber with the WP, but I do think the 2nd recall shock on my S1 is better than the long Showa with "reinforcement" on my X1.

No doubt the 2nd recall (short) Showa is better than the 1st recall Showa....that being said, I still prefer the Pre-recall WP over either Showa because I believe the "design flaw" is more in the fact that it uses a pull shock at all than whichever shock is on it... I worry that the cases or front cylinder bolts or front mount will fail equally as possible as shock that can go on it.

No I don't, but I do happen to know one of the guys that suffered a failure of the original WP shocks. He was riding (thankfully) reasonably sedately in the Lake District of England when the shock snapped, causing the back of the bike to drop straight onto the rear tyre. If you know the roads of the Lake District you will realise how lucky he was to be travelling relatively slowly and in a straight line at the time, as roads are invariably lined with dry stone walls with no room for error.

One failure would be enough for me to avoid this shock (and the later flawed Showa version too!). Just because only a few failed doesn't mean that you have one of the 'safe' ones, and stories of 30K mile shocks wouldn't make me change my mind.

Official vehicle recalls are not initiated because of poor press comments, but due to actual evidence of failure or possible failure. By using a shock on your road bike that has been the subject of an official recall and replacement by a manufacturer (not just a service bulletin) you could not only invalidate your insurance but in some countries actually be riding illegally and could be prosecuted for a dangerous vehicle.

So my shock that EBR used on there bike for the track that has been completely gone through by Lindman Engineering. Is unsafe?
Recalls are not always from the amount of injury and the bad part 9 times out of 10 it is due to laws and lawyers who work the system and profit doing it they have their pocket books in mind not the publics best interest. I have been involved in litigation with recall issues before. One word JOKE!

It's up to you of course. However even if it has been checked by the best engineer in the world and is 100% solid, it is still a part that has been officially recognised as suspect, subjected to an official recall and replaced with another part. This means that even your perfect WP shock (and they are all perfect until they break) could still invalidate your vehicle insurance and could still be illegal to use.

Your bike and your choice ; )
