FMJ..
I pressume gravity fed fuel was too slow at high rpm as well as pumped scavenged oil in bottom end = Horsepower !!
With high end gearing, this bike musta bin used for road racing or somethin..
If only they could talk!

I have a gravity fed 45 on my bike with no problems to speak of, wouldn't think electric fuel pump is needed.

I agree..Not sure what was up, but once it goes back 2gether after a freshen up, It will be gravity fed only...Hb

You think maybe there was plans for a turbocharger at some point? That would answer the fuel pump quandary. The RS I had was turbocharged and it had a fuel pump almost exactly like that one. The carb was turbo specific, too.

LC...
Im sure it was used as hooked up..
The engine musta starved on fuel with the 45mm mikuni and the tiny Buell petcock, so they musta force fed the carb electrically when needed..As far as the one hooked to the oil lines, they threaded a fitting into the bottom of the crankcases , welded an extra fitting to the oil tank and sucked the oil outa the bottom end..i pressume at high RPM it couldnt scavenge fast enough and as well excess oil in the bottom causes flywheel drag{robs HP}.
I also find after splitting cases that a windage tray was installed...After measuring things, its actually 1375 cc,84"..3-3/4 bore, stock 3-13/16 stroke, 567 redshift cams , high volume lifters and adj pushrods..1 piston is toasted , and Iv concluded the reason for that is when big boring cases and running high rpms after time, cases distort and end up sqeezing the spigots which in turn calaspses piston skirts...Iv found this on big twin evo motors in the past...My bro has a machine shop, so the cases are getting re bore a few tho to reround the holes and aloow for expansion again..approx .005 tho is reguired cold..
I will post more as it comes along..Hb

Never had a problem with my 88" S-2 with a Mikuni, methinks they were fixing a problem that was not there. And on the Bonneville engines I had fittings tapped into heads draining back to crankcase so under sustained high rpm the top end would not fill with oil trying to drain back. Again, worked very well. Love the professional installation----

I know of a bike that has electric pumps for crankcase scavenging and the bike picked up enough hp to notice when the pump is on and off when riding the bike, It also picked up power on the dyno, more than one might think.

I know of several bikes that have used low pressure supplemental fuel pumps and all of them were tried without them first. they were not able to keep the bowl full even for 1320 feet at wfo. All of them made over 130rwhp-not that easy to do though. Mikuni even recommends using a low volume pump for the bigger flatslides above 130rwhp. They even make a special needle and seat for that application.

What I meant to say was low pressure not low volume, but it is kind of low volume also. The needle I mentioned is the float needle.
