Anyone have a spare seat screw for an S1? Mine rattled out on the highway the other day. And then when i towed the bike home, the seat flew off and got rashed up on the highway. lol.

A little bit of velcro goes a long way. Don't even use the screw anymore.

Mine all have a lockwasher on them. I couldn't remove them from the bodywork if I wanted to.

I was thinking that too. The first time I pulled the seat off of my bike I was pleased to find that the screw seemed to be captive. I haven't investigated to see how it was "captive" but once it's unscrewed it stays in place in the tail section when the seat is removed.

Did I miss something? Is there something I should be concerned about to prevent future loss of my screw?

They are still available, part number 52318-96Y is the screw 6053Y,is the nylon washer and 11510Y is the retaining ring. The last time I bought one earlier this year the screw came with the retaining ring, but it was nylon,so I went to the hardware and bought one made of metal.

I think what ya'll are calling a lock washer is what Buell calls the retaining ring.

Here's the link for the ebay screw. Seems expensive to me though!

In a pinch I have made one using a lag bolt as a starting point.. Round off point, weld washer to head, Install.

I wouldn't pay money for a new one.
That looks similar to the screw that held on the battery cover of my 1979 ironhead.
First one fell out and sidecover went flying.
Bought another one at the dealer and that one fell out too.
After that, I used a big sheetmetal screw from my dad's old auto hardware box and it never fell out.

I have very low confidence in that pseudo-thread thumbscrew.

I have purchased items from Ebay Member id davidjayuden before. He is priced a bit high, but what is your time worth? I have made him reasonable offers and he usually accepts them. Combines shipping as well. Spend the $40 bucks and be done with it. Having the right part is the best piece of mind money can buy....Just my opinion...

Take the seat off if trailering. Mine even used to loosen up while driving ALL THE TIME. Mine does have the metal washer. I put a 3/4 long piece of shrink wrap (3/8 dia. and shrink it) over the threads and it really helped with it not getting loose.

I went out to the garage and found a few - but if you found them at a dealer - that's great.

Well $8 beats $29.95

That's some easy math there.

There's a "stupid seat screw" thread in the old school archives that's an amusing read, and has some useful suggestions in it too.

Lost mine many years ago... replaced it with a large allen head bolt and flat washer. Haven't lost it yet.
