I hate to sound stupid, but does this stand offer a specific advantage over and above the standard stand on my S1?

It is a looks thing if you run with the rear triangles gone the kickstand looks odd hanging out in nowhere land!

DOH! I knew it was a dumb question, and like most dumb questions, the answer is pretty self evident as soon as someone points it out to you. So, now I know and it makes perfect sense. No plans to remove my triangles so I guess my stock stand will do for me, but I do admit that it is more attractive that way.

Is there a stop, or is that built into the mounting lug? Any pics with it up?

Thylacine,
Does the weight rest on the two primary cover bolts - or is there support that goes under the cover also? Early photos of the S1 had the sidestand mounted to the two primary cover bolts as shown in your photo, but because it stressed the two bolts, the cover gasket would eventually leak at the area behind the bolts.
Advances in the cover gasket material since the mid-90s (paper to the current foam/metal) probably have removed that concern.

I am aware of the potential for leaking. For production that is a concern . For me though if it leaks ,I will fix it. I am currently using paper gasket and so far, = no issues. When it does leak I will either change the gasket or it may be the excuse I need to make an open primary/ dry clutch setup.

Also, this will allow you to spin the bike on the kickstand, like all those cool jap bikes do.

yap yap yap.

What kind of rear sets are those? Do they still make them?

Thanks!

No, not still made. They are Sato. I got them from Japan. Last set in the world.

Look at Twin Motorcycles for the SATO sets, nice but pricey! There looks to be a lead time though
