So i was looking another project after i finished my seat cowl and i stumbled onto the RFID Keyles Ignition over on the Custom Fighters. Looks simple enough so im doing it. To me the ignition on the X1 is very unsafe. The ignition cylinder is right out in the open staring you in the face and shows the world that even a 5 year old could hot wire this bike and take off. So i bought some parts off Fleabay which came to a total of $30. The relay and RFID circuit board will go under the seat and the ignition cylinder will be replaced by the RFID antenna. So now instead of using your key. you will have a little key fob that you simply swipe near the gauges and your ignition turns on. then you start the bike and go. Nobody will be able to start the bike unless they have the key fob. the parts will be here early next week and i will install it very soon after with pictures so you guys can see. what do you think?

Like all devices weather they be key or electronic, they never put a emergency get you home "THINGIE" in the system for when they FAIL !!!

thats when you put in an emergency mechanical rocker switch that connects the 2 leads to your ignition so in the event that it does fail, you have a mechanical bypass to the system and you can start the bike.

It doesn't get much simpler than this...

The average person would have no idea this is even possible...

mikethediabetic Do you have any more info? A link? This sounds really interesting. I've been trying to think of something to do with My S-1 ignition switch.

its just power into the RFID, the the RFID into the relay, then the relay to the 2 ignition wires. like i said, it will be here monday/tuesday, should have everything up and running by the end of the week. i will post pics and wireing diagrams if people are interested.

Mine's had a $2 rocker switch on it for years, hidden behind the windscreen.

I've also toyed with Koz's idea to get rid of the starter switch just to mess with people. A hole and a nail work just the same.

Well crap, I should be. I've only torn it down to the crank pin twice now.

I don't want to hear you've got 1,234,555 miles as of last ride and haven't torn the top end off!!!

Years ago in a '67 Chevy long-wide I ditched the ignition for a rocker switch and push button.

I just want to point out one thing about your backup design. You criticize the key location and how easy it is to hot wire the bike, yet it seems your willing to put a switch on the bike that essentially makes hot wiring easier? Or am I missing something?
