I've been passively looking to trade my 98 Wrangler for an S3T since my Son passed away and I recently came across a man with a 99 X-1 Carbon Fiber looking to trade.

It has a 1450 motor with all supporting equipment. It has a claimed 125 HP.

My questions are:

1. How capable is the X-1's fuel injection with a motor this big?

2.With 125HP can I expect trans/drive gear problems?

3.1450 and 125HP how reliable(I know this is a loaded question) is the engine going to be assuming it's built correctly?

4. Anybody got experience with a bike similar to this and can give me a rough idea of how it rides?

Thanks ahead of time guys

The tranny would probably be fine so long as he hasn't just been burning tires like a tool with it.

That having been said, I think the 1450 kit is a stroker which means that the case has been bored out and the bottom end has been swapped out.

I would suggest just getting an X1 that hasn't been modified so much.

I'm with Nate on this one,
AND
who built the motor? A sponsor?
How many miles on the reworked motor?
Dyno sheets and recipts..
Otherwise the mods are meaningless, as the work is difficult to verify.

the fueling can be checked by examining the plugs, the ECM could probably be retuned for the monster motor
125 hp at the ground is in excess of 140 at the crank, its likely to be fussy and hard to ride ( not much fun )

I'm just scracthing the surface of this deal. I plan on talking more about the details with the bike with him soon.

I'm hoping he has supporting paperwork for the build.

I think it's 125 at the crank.

Thanks

If he spent that much money building it up and we all know he did then why sell it?? It doesn't make sense to me. I have spent lots of money on my X1 and would never sell it.....Whats wrong with it? How many miles are on the odo?

I forgot about fussy oldog. My X1 is barely street-able and the throttle is either on or off no happy in between. But i still love it.

Preybird, sometimes people want something different, I put a lot of money and time into my old m2 but eventually sold it because I wanted something different.

And a 1450 x1, if the mods are verifiable then is jump all over that

Personally I think tou'd be better off selling the Jeep first and looking at a more verified X1, or offer him no more $6,500 if all the mods are there. A stock bike goes for $2800-4000 generally and usually you don't get much for mods. I know he may have $10K in the motor if it's built that well but unless he has paperwork and proof of attention to detail and care it's still worth nowhere near the value of the Jeep IMHO.

I agree with all the posts above. I'm still waiting on the info from the seller.

It seems 125BHP is more likely than RWHP but that should still make for riot to ride.

I'm truly up in the air on it.... if it works out fine... if it doesnt I'm OK with that also.My Jeep is a running driving project so the value is about the same but I'd take no less than 5 G's for it cash.

I originally was looking for a S3T or possibly a single seat S1 anyway and this popped up.

That sounds like a good trade. That bike would be the only thing I would swap a jeep for.
Sounds like a real monster X1.

Unfortunatly the deal is off. We could not get to a spot that worked for us both.

Oh well, I'm in no hurry and I'm sure something else will come along.

1450cc is just an 88ci kit - big bore, no stroke.
