So my ignition pick-up let out the smoke. Installed a new one and had the bike running for a short period of time. I was dialing in the carb mixture and idle just didn't seem right, so I broke out the timing light and checked the marks. According to the manual, two dots are my dynamic timing and a line is used for static timing. I have not done the static timing yet, I have to figure out how to make a test harness. Anyway, two dots were centered in the window. Turned bike off and could not get it to start again...just a loud backfire through the exhaust. I did some research and someone posted post 96 EVO's used two dots for 20 BTDC and one dot for 35 BTDC...the latter should be used for dynamic testing. Anyone have some clarification? Stick with the manual or is it wrong? Anyone build a test harness? |

ok...static timed and she is running again. Still tach does not respond past 1500 RPM. Anyone know how to test it? Not sure if it's dead or a wiring issue... |
