Hi from an Aussie Bueller!

I am looking to do a gearing swap from the Euro/Aussie 29/55 to the American 27/61.

Anyone interested in a swap? My bike has 7,000km's on the clock so the pulley's are in great condition. The swap will cost the price of shipping (via air).

Let me know if you are interested.

I'm happy to pay shipping both ways. This swap will cost you nothing! I'm also happy to ship first so you can wait until you get the gears before shipping back.(Little to no time off the road!).

29/61 final overall ratio is 3.366 ...

Norton, check your owners manual and see what your overall gearing is and post it ... Is your motor sprocket 35T and clutch basket 56T ???

Hi Buellistic,

My motor sprocket is 35T, I'm not sure about the Clutch Basket.....I believe it's 56T.

Sprocket Trans is 29T and Sprocket Drive Belt is 55T.

I do a fair amount of city riding and find I never use 4th or 5th. I have been told I would be much better off with the "American" gearing instead of the "Australian" gearing..... I have seen a few people (in previous posts) chasing the Australian gearing as it suits hwy riding....Thought it might be a good opportunity to do a swap! Much cheaper then the $300USD they are asking for the parts.

I have a spare 61 tooth rear but I'm not sure if it's a sporty or Buell part, but I suspect it's a sporty. I'd be happy to send it, and then you could get it machined out to the proper size. (Unless someone here can tell me the proper dimension for the center, then I can have my brother open it up for you...)

Snowbees, did the change effect the belt size? I've got a fair amount of slack so I think it will fit ok.

Changing the rear sounds like a decent option. From my calculations changing the rear would increase the ratio by 7.4% (55 to 61 rear) Changing the front to 27 and rear to 61 would increase the ratio by 19.1%.

Thanks for the offer Littlebuggles, I'll let you know if it's needed. I think it would be best to change both at the same time....I really want the 19% gearing change.

The later XB12 motor sprockets had more teeth so if you put on on your gearing will be higher(less RPM in high gear) ...

Put one(motor sprocket) on my BLAST so that "i" could ride it on the INTERSTATE HIGHWAY with out it creaming like a metric bike ...

Cheers Nallac.

I managed to get hold of a Buell 61T rear and 27T front pulley. Paid approx. $180USD delivered to Australia....Very happy with that!

My X1's a US import....

Even at 100k's 5th gear is virtually unusable....Sits around 2500rpm's or lower (Sorry, I've only just got the bike back on the road after a full rebuild so ride time has been very limited) I will try 29/61 first and then put the 27/61 on if I'm still not happy.

My bike runs too rough below 2800rpm and makes for an uncomfortable cruise on the freeway. I'm due for a full dyno tune next week so hopefully this will smooth things out a little and the new gearing will finish it off nicely.

i am changing mine on my 99 M2 from its UK gearing of 29/61 to 27/61 its just to high geared,i want a bit more acceleration, and i hardly ever use fifth gear,
motor way speed is 70mph (max by law)which of course i stick to(yeah right)i can still do 100 in forth no problem so i think lower gearing will be much better,
