11.83v at 2,000rpm on the S2 today. Stator? Or regulator? Letting the bike cool off tonight, gonna recheck it tomorrow (my day off). I'm guessing (the shop manual is not helpful on this) the regulator/stator connector I need for the tests is in the bundle/snakes nest behind the battery? ....she's mad at me because I've been riding the CR so much lately.... |

Damn, I thought I did a lot of threadjacking! Sorry to hear your trouble Joe, none of them like to be left alone too long. I had a bullet connector from my voltage reg corrode up bad enough to loose contact a couple years ago and I was really sweating it until a friend took a quick look at the wiring running under the bike. Don't forget the small stuff... |

Oh yeah, I'll put $1 on it being the regulator, barring a bad connection. That's just me hoping it's not the stator though. |

I would like to go on record here as blaming a connector. Vibes * Age = loose stuff. Look between the stator and regulator before you start buying stuff . |

Hoping for something silly...like my Ulysses last week, the 77 connector went and it went into a discharge state. Replaced the connector with screw-splices and SHE (what, nobody ever had boats?) is running great now. Hoping for something similar on the S2. Mainly...because I hatehateHATE the stench of fried stator. It's like limited-slip-differential additive - it NEVER comes out! |

Id guess stator or stator connection. Pop off the primary inspection cover and take a deep whiff. |

"Oh yeah, I'll put $1 on it being the regulator, barring a bad connection." +1 And my bike is female, for that side of the thread, I like to ride women. I'll let someone else decide if almost 100 rwhp is pussy or not |

Regulator it is. No grounded stator. No short across stator (resistance is a *little* high, 0.7 ohms versus the manuals 0.4-0.6, but close enough for me could just be a dirty plug). Stator output at 2k rpm is over 40 (46 I think). Now to see if there's one at the shop so I can get it...half an hour before they close |
