Are the original header pipes stainless or steel, the one Im looking at are steel. Is the brace on the upper right that comes off the front of the motor a brace for the huge plastic airbox ? Is there anyone who rebuilds fork tubes. I can buy this bike with 27,000 miles for $1900, it needs a front tire too. is this a decent price or would I be better off spending more for a better one ? Paint is good, new rear tire , good seat, no cracks in body work? Need some advise guys. Thanks |

as long as you like to wrench on your own ride, the bike will be great fun. if you have no desire to do your own work, forget it. i love my 97 S3 and always will. the pipes may be force or some other aftermarket pipes that are coated steel, or??? any pics? |

I've never heard of anybody making straight up "steel" headers for a Buell. Not even the aftermarket suppliers. OEM headers are stainless steel. Rebuilding the forks can be done by a handy person. But they are a pain in the azz to do correctly (the first time). (Message edited by lake_bueller on June 04, 2010) |

The guy is asking $2900, I can buy new OEM forks for $300 a pair, even a new OEM stainless header for $95. I do my own wrenching but dont know if I want to try these forks. I figure HD will want as much as new ones if they will even do it & this way they are perfect. It has some home made junk muffler on it but he has the stainless factory muffler. What about the airbox brace ? Will send pics if I get it and can figure how to post them. Im 99% sure hes going to sell it to me. (Message edited by mtkawboy on June 04, 2010) |

The brace is for a breadbox looking intake. Google images for the S3 and you'll see what the original looked like and why so many are gone. Now that it's been a decade I'm starting to like that look, though. I'd imagine someone here would have an intake in their garage they'd let go of if you had a need. Right now I'm afraid I'm not one of them. Ditto with Lake on the forks. $1900 sounded like a great price if the engine was in decent shape. I think $2900 is getting into the realm where nothing should be needed. |

I thought that brace was for the air cleaner. problem with this deal is by the time Im done Ill have $2700 {just parts, no labor}in bike with 28,000 miles. I made him an offer and he was going to let me know today but so far nothing. Looks to me like this bike has had a rough life with poor maintenance. Found out today it came off the rez in Lame Deer Mt, not a good sign |

Check the Badweb classifieds. That's more like what you should be getting for $3K. IMO, I think it's a very good price. |
