outside of the speed sensor issues and the gasket issue, the 02 is a great bike but correct me if i'm wrong, wasn't the 02's the orange and grey even with the s/3's. thought the grey/black was 01. |

Many color options over the years, I can check a sales brochure in the morning. Most issues fixed on 02 model year bikes, might want to check the date on those those D205's, prolly pretty old and you can run a 180 on the PM's so there are many tire options available. How are the latches and hinges on the S3T's? |

I'm workin' on it wilson! Gotta make sure I make the right choice on this, I hate to give up the "9" and find out I made a bad decision. Thanks for the input guys, I'm hoping to make the trek to see this bike and also another 2000 S3 on saturday. I'm sure i'll have more questions for ya. |

shame you'd have to get rid of the 9 cause they are like a lays potato chip, you just can't have one. |

I actually was looking at this particular bike last fall - that dealer has been sitting on it for a long time. They were asking WAY too much money for it a few months ago - I see they no longer have a price listed so hopefully they're entertaining more reasonable offers on it. I'm not an expert on the color, but my 2002 S3T has an orange frame and silver cam cover. Things to look for: BIGGEST issue is the front isolator and motor mount. Inspect this area well. Make sure there are no cracks in the rubber part of the isolator and also make sure there are no broken bolts anywhere, but most common is the lower left bolt for the mount. Look at this well - I took on dealer's word on this last fall and learned the hard way. Rear isolators - again, look for cracks, make sure the rear header isn't touching the frame anywhere. Bags - make sure the inner black part of the back isn't cracked - these can be hard to see. If they're not in too bad of shape then don't worry about it because you're going to want to lay some fiberglass in there anyways to reinforce them. I don't see fairing lowers or the brackets for them. I asked them about this and they said they did not have them for this bike. That was part of the deal killer for me (along with the lack of orange frame and way too high of a price) as I didn't want to chase down parts. Ask if they have these, and look to see if the fairing pouches and underseat bag are all in place. Other than that stuff, just make sure there are no oil leaks or anything real broken looking. There's not a lot of miles on that bike so issues shouldn't be a problem, but there weren't many miles on mine when I bought it and it was a nightmare after I got it home. A couple weeks, though, and she's good as new and hasn't skipped a beat. Other than that, just make sure there's nothing obvious like oil leaks, broken parts, etc. |

If that's the one I'm thinking (in Connecticut?), last year's bike was a 2001, same color though. and they were asking a whole lot. This one (last I checked) was about a grand cheaper. still too much for me. But I wasn't in a good position to haggle. Hopefully you get a good deal on it |

Buellistic has one with like a billion miles on it...he is THE MAN when it comes to keeping a tuber alive and kickin'. Pm him...he is a vast storehouse of tuber knowledge...his S3T with well over 100K miles still runs good. |

What about the one posted in the FS section? Too far away? I think it was in VA - you could fly down/ride home through some very nice states. |

Ustorque, are you still talking with them about the bike? I might end up heading over there to check it out later this week, but I don't want to "steal" it from you if you are still in talks. |

The engine on the 2002 is not black unless someone painted it. |

My bike is a 2001 S3T and it has the identical paint scheme as this one. I have only had it for 2 years but I really dig it! |

Good choice, tubers are tempting, but to give up a newer bike and have to add cash would be a no-go. |
