I'm looking for a swing arm stand to use on an 2002 X1.

I was at a local bike shop today and bought a Lockhart Phillips stand. But it doesn't sit right on the X1s swing arm. The L brackets that the swing arm sits on are a too long and the one side hits the rear belt sprocket. If I try to pick it up forward of the sprocket the belt guard bosses are in the way so it doesn't sit flat on the arm. I'm not really sure about picking it up in front of the belt guard bosses, plus the stand rubs the back tire while lifting from the spot.

So it looks like that one is going back.

What do you guys use, suggest? I thought about getting one that uses spools and picking it up via a rod through the axle, but that doesn't help with rear tire removal.

I have the same problem with my stand hitting the rear sprocket.I modified the holders by cutting the spring so it doesn't push in as far.I also drilled new cotter pin holes so that the L-support doesn't hit the sprocket.The stand supports the bike straight and steady.

How do the T-Rex stands compare to the Pit Bull stands? I'm not doing anything major, just minor maintenance/repairs here and there.

The T-rex stands appeal to be because I can get a front and rear for the price of a pit bull.

I was also going to build a frame to suspend the front so I could check the head tension.

IMO the pit bulls are built better but I use the TRex stands more often than not. Both are very similar in design and function. I also have the TRex front stand that works great.

I use a ladder and some tie downs to suspend the bike when I am doing anything major.

I have a front and rear stand from Vortex Racing and absolutely love them. They have 4 wheels and a removable handle so you don't trip over it.

Mine is sitting on T-Rex front and rear stands right now and I really like them. T-Rex also sends both adapters so if I ever have a bike with spools I can swap 'em out.

is it worth the extra $ to get the triple tree stand as opposed to the fork stand?

Or should I just stick with the idea of making a frame to suspend the front end from?

Deanald2pt0, that is a question only you can answer. For changing the front tire, brakes etc the stand is great.

I have a front and rear Pit Bull set I dig, and a rear, erm...Center stand that lifts from the pegs. That one is my favorite.

If you want to take the wheel off, get the triple tree stand, otherwise you'll be SOL.

Frank, thanks for the link. I will definitely be investing in a pair of those. I'll spring for the triple tree stand, so I can pull my forks as I'll be having them rebuilt soon.

Why can't you take the front wheel off with the regular fork stands?

See the two pinch bolts on either side of each fork? That's why.

BUY THE TRIPLE TREE STAND. You will regret it if you don't. There's not a whole lot you can do on the front end with just the fork lift except get it off the ground. With the triple tree lift you can remove the wheel and fork legs. When I bought mine I think it was somewhere around $160 for everything. I've bought parts for the bike that will fit in the mailbox for more than that.

I like to support my local shops when possible. I stopped in Indy Super Bikes last night after work and picked up a Pit Bull Standard SS stand. It works great, and should work for most anything I could owning in the future (with the exception of an 1125).

Center stand that hooks under the footpeg mounts, and a pit bull triple tree stand in the front. Anyone know what the actual brand name of this center stand is?



The only issue is that if the front is on the stand, the center stand has to be sitting on about a 3/4" thick board to let the rear tire clear the ground. Not a big issue but some times I like to turn the engine over using the rear wheel for whatever reason.

The center stand is no longer available AFAIK, but just to satisfy inquiring minds.. the only function I know of that the stand won't work for is dropping the swingarm mount. The swingarm/engine mount block won't clear the bolts holding the footpegs on, so the rear end has to be supported by some other means. I prefer these means:
