Just wanted to add a little fluff to the dash. The ring is brass apparently; I used aircraft remover to repeal the paint off of it. I still have to repair the hole in the dash too, thinking of painting it a different color. Any suggestions to fuse size I should run with the clock? Should I run it to the battery or is there an aux input in the harness?

Anybody know what time it is? TOOL TIME.

Cool Ross. I was looking at a round digital clock but I could not bring myself to cover up the S2 badge...

Yeah, I still have the badge, but hasn't figured where I'll put it. I had to cut a hole in the dash to put the S3 clock in it.

Looks good.

And just so everyone knows...the dash is still available, and it's not that expensive, I want to say it was $20 or 30 but I'll have to check. I got one only a month or so ago, to have as a spare / experimental cut-me-up-and-try-stuff dash : )

Doesn't the 97 S3T dash look like this and come with a clock installed? If not, my 97 S3T is not as unmolested as I thought... :-)

The S3T dash is a little different but yes it comes with the clock installed. Where Ross installed the clock on the S2 dash is where a little round indentation is that usually holds a S2 Thunderbolt badge.

Ross, forgive the thread hijack. One of my S2Ts has a chrome plate around the indicator lights and one does not.

This part is not listed in the parts book (like a few other parts). Does anyone know if the S2 or S2T came with this. I am thinking the S2T did and after time a lot of them fall off. I need a source and think it might be a standard Harley part (after all it is chrome LOL).

I think that is either a Harley accessory or one that was sold later to fit on newer tuber models. I know there was a chrome bevel kit for the X1, M2, etc...

Oh yeah, It's PEANUTBUTTER JELLY TIME!

I am thinking they came stock on the S2-T and not on the S2s. I have no information to back that up it is just a gut feeling.

While going through the restoration project on number 240 S2T it is the little things making it interesting.

Parts lookup shows no idiot light chrome trim on either a '95 S2, or a '96 S2T. Which is weird, because my '01 P&A book shows 74614-01Y as being the chrome trim piece...and says it does NOT fit S2 or S2T models.

Maybe the S2 family needs the HD trim piece?

FWIW, my S2 does not have the trim.

And the dash itself is M0660.8A, $34.95 list. : )

Frank, I agree, 95s don't have the chrome bezel. Neither does the 97 S3T. Cannot comment on the 96 S2T as there is none sitting around in the garage... :-) Here's a picture of the 97 S3T dash...

Well I'll be.... It looks like they used a S2 dash and modified just like Ross. I always thought the S3s had the ignition switch in the dash but I guess that was a couple of years later, maybe with the FI bikes?

Cornel, no S2-T in the garage??? You need to fix that.

In 98 the S3s had the big dashboard with the ignition in it... So you should be able to order that 97 dash from the factory too...
Well, Frank, I once got very close to getting a T-model in Detroit, but ended up giving a buddy the first right to buy. There is this S2T in Dayton in immaculate condition, but much like you, I like to tinker with them and put them back in original condition. As soon as a S2T in need of work crosses my path..... I promise :-)

Buell and HD both offered the idiot light chrome bezel as an accessory...
It was not stock on the S2 or S2T

Thanks RB for the dash price. I figured it was cheap enough, but with the million other things I need to finish to get my bike ready for TXS2step, I figured I'd save the $35 for a part I can't fix with a little filler : ). FWIW, if I do decide to get a new dash, it'll be the S3T dash Buelltours posted, and I can drill the mounting holes instead of having to drill the clock hole again. Maybe I'll move my igntion to the dash, too. Haven't decided on that one yet..

Maybe I'll move my igntion to the dash

I have thought about that for the custom build but I do not think I will use the S2 dash at all. I am thinking of using a plate similar to the shape of the S2 dash face with only a GPS in the center with the idiot light and some switches. I have an idea of four switches that must be in a certain sequence for the push button starter, no key.

Like you, I am still thinking

FYI, the H-D part number for the idiot light bezel is 74562-98 and is still available. I'd been thinking about getting one for my S2, but I haven't checked to see whether it was a perfect fit or not yet.

As I recall when that accy came out, it was not listed as being applicable for the S2 as the indicator lamp assembly was changed from the S2 type to a different version for the later tube frame bikes. I think there was something about the S2 version having a sharper edge to the assembly rather than the rounded edge on the new style that prevented the bezel from fully seating on it.
I was riding an M2 at the time so I wasn't totally locked in on the situation 100%.

While the bezel was not a perfect fit (it is bigger) it works well, It was made for the S1, S3 & M2 and later style HD idiot lights. They were slightly different.. Kind of like using the HD chrome instrument bezel on the S3 clock.. By the way all the small S3 dashes I have ever seen were plastic with a recess for the S3 badge while the S2 was fiberglass with no recess..

Interesting, every S2 I have has the recess for the badge. I do not think they are fiberglass either but I will take a look today. I know number 95 and 240 and 35 all have the original dash.

I stand corrected. All my S2s have fiberglass dashes. Only number 35 (1995 S2) does not have the recess for the badge. Both 1996 S2Ts have the recess.

Interesting, thanks S2pengy.
