I have an '00 M2 with a Forcewinder installed. Another fellow has an '00 X1 with a CF Buell race intake and we are considering switching. He has a spacer on his X1 behind the race backing plate and my Forcewinder mounts directly to the CV carb mount. Other than me blocking the IAT hole are there any issues? Should the spacer stay with the race intake or would we both need one? We are both using 90 degree head breather bolts and re-routed breather lines so that will not change and we would both need a gasket. Anything else?

This would be a long distance deal by mail and we want to ensure that we both have what we need if we do this.

The other fellow would be me. I'm pretty sure the spacer is needed for the CF hamcan so the backing plate clears the frame, and that the forcewinder just bolts right to the "horn". Just need someone with a Force on an FI buell to confirm this. Thanks guys.

On my X1, I do have a spacer between the intake horn and the Forcewinder elbow.

I have forcewinders on a '99 Cyclone and on a '98 White lightning, and neither has a spacer behind it. Just a gasket between the forcewinder and the carb retaining bracket (don't be tempted to run without the bracket).

The more I look into this, the more complex it seems. Apparently the FI bikes use an M6 screw, while the carbed bikes use a 1/4-20. Carbed bikes don't need a spacer for the force, but I think FI bikes do as the "horn" doesn't stick out as far as the carb does. Does a carbed bike need a spacer for the CF hamcan?

The CF race air cleaners do need a 1/2-5/8" spacer behind them to prevent rubbing on the frame. That's on carb'd models. I can't say for injected bikes.

I'm putting a C/F ham can air cleaner on my S3T -- replacing the airbox.

For frame clearance looks like I need two spacers between the throttle body and a/c backing plate. I'm using HD part 29256-88. I'm using a gasket between the spacers, mounting plate and a/c back plate -- quantity of 3, HD 29059-88. I'm also using the Screaming Eagle orifice ring that I had in the gutted airbox.

I'll need to figure out how to deal with the IAT sensor and I need right angle breather bolts or banjo bolts. I've got one of those horseshoe breather kits on order that will solve the breather problem.

Looks to be pretty straight forward.

Cool, that's what I needed to know. Only thing now would be the screws, and that should be simple enough.

Actually it is pretty simple. On an X1, without a bracket, the filter will rub against the frame. On a carb bike, the intake mounting point sticks out a bit more so you may not need the bracket. Either way, I think the bracket makes for a more solid mounting. The length of the mounting screws are also different to compensate for the bracket.

if you get the right K&N filter, it wont rub. the filter that came with my forcewinder isnt round, its more if a "round rectangular"

if you get a true conical it may rub,

I have no spacer as well on my x1 forcewinder it clears with 1" to spare.
