I have a 01' X1 and on my last ride, the trip meter started acting up. It worked fine, then I filled up with gas, reset it, and took off. I was watching it and it would log say 3 miles, then poof, back to 0. It also wouldnt start reading again until I hit the button to go back to my odometer, then when I would go back to the trip and it would read again. Then it may go 7 or 10 miles, or maybe only 1/2 mile, then poof again. Does anyone have any idea what is going on here. Thanks for any help you can give, Matthew Tully

I'd say it's the switch in the button since the problem is temporarily fixed every time you mess with the button..

i am having the same issue. I just had all my gauges removed to install my custom dash i made and ever since then its doing that. I went back and tightened all the wires on the back of the gauges and then it worked fine for a while. Now its stuck on odometer and when pressing the button will not go to trip.

Check battery voltage as well..... it will trip out when voltage gets just a little low. Loose battery wires will do it as well. Just trying to bring up the easiest fixes to check.

tms

the switch causes the change if there are issues check the wiring for chafing as stated above check the boot (button face) for damage the button is a common electronic item, the boot and housing protect it from the elements.

odo & trip can also be effected by a blown instrument fuse (trip will not "remember")

the display should operate on 5v or less so a weak battery is less likely an issue
I have a custom dash and LOTS of wires stuffed in there, chafed wire or switch issue is my GUESS
