Hey m2bers,
im installing a forcewinder on my 2002 m2L this evening after work (very excited). I'll be re-routing the breathing line to exit the intake path as opposed to feeding back into the forcewinder. I think i have it under control...but im sure something will sneak up and confuse me.

Anyway, if there are others out there that have installed the forcewinder and have any suggestions, tips to increase performance, or general advice on this install it would be greatly appreciated. i've heard talk about grinding out the bell, but might wait for that.

also...anyone need a breadbox...or breadbox components?

It's really a pretty straight forward install. You might have to clearance that small breather notch inside. You can search here for pictures of the old style that you need to grind and the new style to compare.

Also use an allen wrench with the ball tip on the top bolt. The intake is in the way with a std allen. Don't torque it too much with the ball type allen. My dealer broke his allen and left it in the bolt for me when they took it off for another repair!

That was the last time they touched the bike.

if you have the newer style (white lines approx what it started as) you will probably want to open it up a bit for better breathing.

put the bolts all in first, since they are hard to reach if it's snugged up

Here is another picture from the old style (preferred) and the new style (narrow). As they stated, it is recommended that you open up the breather notch.

Oh, and from somebody who spent months putzing with various breather reroute solutions on an M2, my advice is to just route it back into the intake.

I got tired of spooge on everything I own and everywhere I parked...

FWIW: I routed my spooge line to rune beside the tranny vent line over the rear wheel - even with the breadbox.

so - All went well. I removed the breadbox, re-routed the spooge line, and installed the force. as you will see in the picture to follow i put the breather filter on the existing breadbox support arm that comes off the frame (any future problems or issues with that setup anyone?) I plan on drilling a large hole on that support arm to fit the spooge filter upright and make the frame arm look necessary. i did notice a clicking sound coming from that little spooge filter, normal???

i originally kept it on...but the bolts from force were too short to hit the threads on the carb. i guess i need to get some larger bolts and keep that support bracket....otherwise...i really dig it

What Brin said, you not only run the risk of having the carb fall off, you can also run your motor lean and cause damage.
How? As the carb works loose off the manifold, you cause an intake leak and start running quite lean.

Just bob down to your local hardware store and pick up some allen stainless steel cap screws. Use a bit of Loctite blue.

Might want to try again with the bracket. The bolts that came with my force fit just fine and they are designed to use that bracket.

i can definitely feel a bit more torque in 1st gear...and overall it seems to be faster...of course...im waiting to put that bracket back on before i really give it a test run. thanks for the tips binnutz and bluzm2 -

binnutz - my 2002 m2l has this setup:
carb, spacer/extender (to fill space b/w carb and brace), brace, forcewinder...and the bolts wouldnt catch...ill try again with the force bolts that are less than an inch long. is your setup similar?

IIRC The spacer goes next to the Force elbow, after the brace is bolted to the heads. My bike is FI, it may be a different set-up.

You're right Capital, the carb brace/retainer goes on right after the carb. This way the breather bolts that hold the brace snug the brace up to the head. If you have a spacer in between the brace and the carb, then the breather bolts are not going to bottom out on the head. They will only get tight when the carb is pushed up against the lip in the intake.

The catch can still has to vent... and then you have to drain the thing, and you have to locate the catch can. Some people like them... I just vent into the intake now.

HOLY S*** THIS FORCEWINDER IS AWESOME!!!!
I just had my first test run with it on at full speed...and the words in my helmet were nothing but "oh shit" this thing is sick.
i definitely feel an increase in horses and overall response. not to mention the noise has increased a few decibels ; )

i did put the bracket back on however removed the spacer ane...you know what...the stock forcewinder bolts fit perfectly. thanks all for the tips and help that went into this project. you guys f***ing rock!!!

just went to the local buell group here in austin tx (hellbuellies) and turned a few heads...if you dont have one yet, get one...now...what are you waiting for? I bought mine on ebay from a dealer in NY.

i've yet to carve out the bell but can only imagine what that will be like.

all i know is tube frame + force winder = oh shit : )

now all of a sudden my right knee feels a draft...i guess from the breadbox removal...not to mention the clearance i have which wont bang my knee everytime i need a quick stop.

If you had a stock breadbox, check your plugs / jetting. You're breathing a lot more air, you need fuel to match.

Also - your breather filter up front? You're gonna puke oil all over yourself, your new intake, and the side of your bike. My Uly and S2 have the stock setups (with absolutely no issues, FWIW); my S1W was re-routed when I bought it (with Buell race intake seutp) to the battery tray; I moved it further back with more hose, to the passenger footpeg mount (solo tail, never using the peg).

You will get more power if you jet your carb. You don't need a whole kit, just one jet if you don't have an exhaust.

45 pilot jet and drill the airscrew plug on the bottom so you can adjust it. It helps on stock bikes. Set to 2.5 turns out from all the way in. Don't tighten too much when you send it all the way in. This should get you close and you can fine tune from there. Search CV or CV 40 jetting or Sportster jetting here or google.
