anyone ever tried or heard anything about part coatings like a dry film lubricant coating on piston skirts or a heat barrier on the top of pistons?

thetock pistons in my X1 are coated on the thrustline skirts, a non stick coating for the top would be kewl as there was .060" of carbon on the pistons when I took the motor down last month.

Piston Kote was a product made by KalGard. It was around in the 80's,I haven't seen it in a while.

Top coatings wont keep the carbon off forever, i tore down a 4agze (supercharged toyota engine) and the coating did not keep carbon off. Hell i had to scrub those pistons down for a while to see the top of them.

Some engine builders use ceramic spray on pistons and bake them in the oven. Others copper plate the flywheels to shed oil quicker.

An engine builder told me that low friction, dry film type coatings are great if you have problems with eggs sticking to your pistons...
