after finally getting all the gremlins out. I figured I would start tinkering with it. 97 M2, Vance and Hines and Screamin Eagle setup (just like this pic) I've looked through numereous threads about rejetting the carb and refrenced the nightrider thread. Anyway, I rejetted the carb, went with 180 main and 48 slow, adjuted the idle mixture out 2.5 turns and modified the slide. Runs like a screaming banshee, idles great, got rid of my cv hiccup, no more popping through the exhaust on decel. My only problem is a ever slight bog on acceleration. Once past it, she screams. I did not change or shim the needle, and it looks like the only thing that does is richen the low RPM fuel mixture. I think I am too rich and need to adjust the main, but which way a 185 or 175. Sorry for the blonde moment....thanks in advance for the help... Mike |

Idle mixture should be set where the engine idles its fastest then fatten it up a tad. If it bogs(rich)on acceleration drop the needle one notch, if its a cough(lean)raise the needle one. |

that is what I need to know, is dropping the needle going down...have 180, need to go to 175? |

Moving the clip up on the needle leans it,moving the clip down richens it. If you don't see/feel/hear much difference then change the main accordingly. |

no clip...so are you saying that I should add a shim (or 2) to the needle? |

Adding a shim will make it richer off idle/midrange. If its bogging(rich)you need to take out a shim which will drop the needle down lower in the emulsion tube, the main jet is screwed into the bottom of this tube, which should help with the bog off idle provided the pilot jet and the mixture screw are set close. The main should have no affect with the off idle throttle response if its close on size. Radio Shack sells small Stainless steel washers that are about .010 thick that work great for shims......about 2 bucks for a bag of 50 or so. |

ok, we are talking about two different things...I was not clear. The bog/slight hesitation occurs cruising @ highway speeds. Had it on the Interstate, 65 mph or so, roll the throttle and there is a slight bog, then she screams...it is ever so slight |

Drop the main jet size if its doing it at cruising speeds,if it gets better your going in the right direction, if it gets worse go the other way. |

Maybe this will help ??? With my TIMING set correctly, timing mark coming into the rear of the timing plug hole and with a FUEL/AIR Gauge on he rear ex. header for "REAL WORLD" tuning ... With an OEM CARB., idle mixture out from seat 2 1/2 turns, #45 low speed jet, M2 needle raised 0.050 in., #200 high speed jet ... Slide is radus'ed., slide hole is drilled out, and accelerator nozzle is pluged(acculerator pump is removed) ... This is on a 1997 S3T and is OEM "STOCK", "BUT" "PRODUCT IMPROVED" !!! |

A bit off topic, but nice wrap job! My Force was wrapped purdy like that too when I bought it, til the pipe split in half and ruined the wrap . (Message edited by Phelan on April 08, 2009) |

gotta admit, the pic is not mine, it is from a thread that I saved so I could set up a screamin eagle filter like the one in the pic. One day mine will be wrapped like that |

Buellistic has it. From my experience also, a 48 was too much. I think you're too rich on your pilot jet. Try a 45 in there, and raise your needle with a shim as they said. Also, drill the plug and put the idle mixture out as spec'd. |

LOL, get this: I recognize now the bike in the pic was GranCuda's S1 before he sold it, and I bought my Force from him, so the exhaust in the pic IS my pipe! Haha |
