Hey all. I am in the process of purchasing a 1999 X1 from the second owner. The current owner hasn't made any modifications since he bought it in 2005 so all that's been done to the bike was done by the original owner. With regards to the bike mods, this is from the email that the current owner received from the original owner when he purchased it:

=====================================
1999 BUELL X-1 LIGHTNING COLOR: ONYX ALLOY
THE BIKE IS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER, NEVER DROPPED, ADULT OWNED, ALL SERVICE AND RECALLS ARE DONE

EXTRAS: BUELL RACE KIT: “HEADER (JETHOT COATED INSIDE AND OUTSIDE), HIGH PERFORMANCE ECM & K&N AIR FILTER”

AT 12,000 MILES THE FOLLOWING WAS DONE: PORTED AND POLISHED HEADS, NEW OVERSIZED VALVES, NEW VALVE SPRINGS, RETAINERS, AND SEALS. NEW LIGHTER FORGED PISTONS WITH TOTAL SEAL RINGS

OTHER UPGRADES: NEW STYLE SHIFT LINKAGE, NEW REAR SHOCK, METZELER M1 TIRES, OIL COOLER, BUELL TANK BAG, AND BUELL DERBY AND IGNITION COVERS.

DYNOED AT 97.9 REAR WHEEL HORSE POWER
=====================================

This dyno claim seems fairly reasonable to me. Stock, they tend to pull around 82-85 RWHP so an increase of 12-15 hp with a race kit and internal engine upgrades is plausible, right? I'm trying to get in contact with the original owner to get more details on the work he performed. I'm just curious to see what people with similar mods have experienced.
Thanks.

That's plausible I would guess. When mine had stock internals with a K&N, race ECM and Vance and Hines it was pulling around 84 RWHP at 6200 RPM's. There are alot on here that say the head work is where the power is which will be the project after this one. Right now it's getting the 1250 kit after I take care of the flywheel.

At least it's more realistic than this guys claims:

Wilson come on.. he's got crome tail lights and aftermarket handelbars. Those combined with blue under lights create at least 20 hp.

I think it's interesting that the highest production tuber is listed as "very rare".

Thanks for the input. I'm not overly concerned with validating the claim exactly; I'm just curious about what might be an overly-optimistic claim.

As for that X1W, that extra 20HP from the handelbars and crome tail would bump it up over 100HP at the wheel, but where did the other 25 come from? I guess that's the aftermarket foot controls. Although, to be fair, he never makes a HP claim. He only claims 125 rwh, whatever that it.

hey mud, i would agree with his claim. my race ecm, force, pipe and race air cleaner gave me 90, so another 7 out of head work is not impossible, plus he may have changed the compression a tad, but i doubt it.

Well, I managed to procure a bit more information on the bike. In addition to the previously-mentioned mods, it also has Nallin Stage II heads and 1250cc kit with the compression raised to 10.5:1. Also, when dynoed it made 94 ft-lbs at the wheel. With those changes, I have no problem believing the cited numbers. Anyone disagree?

So do you have the bike in your possession yet? If so, WHERE'S THE PICS? It sounds like it will be a real stump puller to ride.

Sadly, no. I'll try to grab some pictures soon but I can't promise anything. It's actually a relative who's selling it to me, so it may be a few weeks before I actually have it in my possession. Luckily I have time to get the cash together because I don't have to worry about him selling it before I have the money.
