Went in to get a bent valve replaced. Mech told me I need to get both heads replaced or reworked because the heads have had work done and he doesnt know what size the valve guides or the valve seals are. Is there a way to tell or am I being ripped.

If your using a H/D mechanic and he dosen't know how to size your guide and seal, I would run, not walk to the shop, get my bike out of his care, and find a TRAINED mechanic to fix my problems.

Okay, I'll bite - how did the valve get bent...

Perhaps the mechanic is seeing more here than just a bent valve?

"he dosen't what size" ???

He is a technician, not a MECHANIC !!!

RUN, RUN, RUN !!!"

Get a FACTORY SERVICE MANUAL and PARTS BOOK for your year and model BUELL ...
That information if stock, is in there !!!

If by chance you bought it used, the previous owner(owner's) should has given you the paper work on any PRODUCT IMPROVEMENTS or what ever on the engine !!!

There are only two places that "i" would recommend !!!

One is a sponsor on this web site and the other is in Colorado ...

You have to check this web site and pick the one for you ...

Well Jason your machine is not with the right mechanic.
There are others who don't think "inside the box" for your repair needs. Go get your heads and send them (insured) to one of the recommended specialists on this forum.
You will soon discover that most H/D technicians are only suitable for R&R duties. I say most because I don't want to get flamed by the select few who do know what they are doing, specifically with the Buell.

Still, no thought required.

H/D techs don't read calipers, only part # and billing time.
