who has any info on what they think is the most hopped up s1. and how much power has everyone gotten out of their xl engine...i kind of want to put this deployment money into something kind of extreme and i need some figures... |

Probably Erik Buell-he had an Aerocharger on one of his. I have a 95" with 126 hp. |

That's the most I've seen as well, naturally aspirated with gas... Dan Norlin's 82" S1 before he blew it up. Aaron's Nitromethane NRHS built 100" S2 runs somewhere between 250-300 hp IIRC. With my one-off Delphi motor build that I'm starting this summer, I'm shooting for 125 hp on 1250 cc. |

Jim, How much does Susan's 1350 have? I don't remember. For those that don'e know, it's a normally asperated motor that has gone WELL over 170MPH at Bonneville. Brad |

Brad, I've never heard Aaron mention how much power Susan's bike makes, but I know it has a 6 speed. I haven't checked the new records but last I saw it was just a tick under 168 mph for the average of both passes. I would guesstimate that it has about 140 hp. I know Pammy's bike is a X1 but does it make a difference what engine the chassis is in??? Hers it pumping out 156 HP. And it has a carb on it as well. |

Nick, I think you are in the same class as Dan Norlin. He has an 8lb/Ci rule as well. Do you have to run single plug stock port height? |

Keel beans and good luck. I'll pass the word of experience to you that I was told by Dan. The cranks usually go by the third season. The crank in Norlin's second motor was S&S with Carillo rods IIRC, and it blew up on the dyno just before the start of its third season. That motor had S&S cases and STD heads and made 140 hp. The next motor he had built was el cheapo (relatively speaking) with Stage III XB heads and stock cases and still made 137 hp. He blew it up last year and last I heard from him in November he's building a new motor in a Sportster frame instead of the S1 frame he's been running. IIRC this will be the 4th or 5th motor that he and The folks at NRHS have built over the years. |

Cycle Rama did an S1 for a customer with 161.8HP and 127.4TQ. Stock case, stock crank, S&S rods, XB heads(ported and redesigned by Wes Brown), Cycle Rama exhaust. STD heads are flat out insane (in a good way). I had used pair and had them repaired last year. The overall design of the head, before even looking at the ports, was awesome, especially if you have a dual-plugged set like mine were. The top plug on my 1200S was always a pain to pull because I had to squeeze through the hole in the center of the rockers. The STD heads have the second plug angled between the pushrods so it was nearly as easy to change as the one on the other side of the head. You can also order them with valve angles specific for your (generally overbore) application, and nearly any valve size you desire. They are truely a builder's head, because nearly everything is a variable, and the ports can be ordered the size of a dime so the porter of your choice can work his magic. They generally run about $2K/pair once your builder ports and assembles them. In regards to Pammy's post, sounds like a helluva bike. I looked it up on the dyno sheets of their page. I would definitely not consider it a street bike, but I'd love to saddle up . |

1203cc Stock cases Stock XB heads Stock XB12 pistons 531 cams 42mm flatslide race style filter KT exhaust 95 rwhp 91 ftlbs There is no head work yet, but some mild porting and XB9 pistons I could probably get her over 100 easy. I think Tattooed and Screwed has a similar setup with XB9 pistons and is making 110, he'd have to chime in with the specifics... Forgot to add, that 95 was peeked at 7k if I raised the rev limit I could probably get the HP to 100 but sacrafice the bottom end lol (Message edited by spiderman on January 26, 2009) |

Mr. Webslinger, if you go with XB9 pistons, that'll raise your compression to roughly 12:1, so with that in mind, I would recommend looking for some forged counterparts. Cast pistons won't last that great in those kind of conditions. Plus the forged pistons are lighter so you could gain a couple more ponies. I know Dan at NRHS can get them for $150/ea IIRC, and I bet Pammy or Brian could get them as well. Stock pistons new are about $50/ea, so there's a bit of a price jump, but a lot of peace of mind. Phelan, the bike in my post isn't on our website. The one on our site is an old sheet of mine. Mine is a street bike, although incredibly difficult to handle. The one in my post is a Hot Street(AHDRA) owned by one of our customers. You are correct in your thinking that it is too much for the street. I will agree whole heartedly. I still have the stock wheel base and it is a bit hairy to ride(on many levels). The exhaust coupled with the sound of the engine makes you a bit conspicuous under any driving circumstances. |
