I've acquired a race air cleaner kit sans cover.

It also has the two filters, not stuck together any longer. I was wondering what type of glue to use to hold them together, I was told weatherstripping glue/adhesive.

Also, I'm wondering where I could get some cheap air cleaner cover(s), or if anyone has one that's blemished laying around.

I want to paint one of the covers to match the bike eventually.

Just get a pre-'04 sportster hamcam and strip and paint it.

I see.

What do those retail for? I see one on eBay, but I can't buy it anytime soon.

Usually you can find them for like $5 if you're patient. If the weather weren't so crappy I'd go to my Dad's and see if my old one from my sportster is out there. You could call my friend Dan at (303) 702 1600 and see if he has one layin' around. If he doesn't ask him if Dan Norlin has one as Dan#2 is at the shop all the time.

A sportster air cleaner cover has the mounting holes in different locations. That might not work like you would want.

Snap, I forgot about that. I think some of the race filters are the same and some are different, but I could be wrong (again). I know NRHS's hurricane flow A/C has the same mounting holes because I've had two of them. The S2 stock A/C also has the same holes.

Well, I better not ask here if Dan sells just the air cleaner cover eh?

for the m2 the buell race air cleaner cover was different, it had offset holes. mine recently flew off on the highway so i did use a sporty ham can cover, i used the one hole that lined up and for the other side i covered up the hole that did'nt line up with a sticker then i drilled a hole on the outside left of the cover and zip tied it to the frame to get a good seal, this is only temporary till i can afford the c.f. cover with the offset holes - these are readily available from a.s.b.

Hell,

I might as well pick up a complete assembly from eBay. Usually go for about $125 on there.

$115 plus shipping on American Sport Bike is high, for me anyways.

Unless you are hell-bent on a C/F cover, I'd recommend you sell what you have and buy the Hurricane-Flow and pick up a sporty cover. They have the venturi built-into the billet backing plate and come with a 2" or 3" K&N element. I believe mine set me back $150.

I've got an American Sport Bike billet back plate for mine. A nice piece of work. It's tilted down a few degrees so it follows the line of the bike. Machined in venturi ring and all!

I bought a beat up back plate of ebay CHEAP (my 2nd favorite price)and fabricated a front plate out of .100 aluminum sheet. I had to make new spacers as I put the fat filter in. I tried to post some pictures but by the time I had reduced my pictures to meet the website min I could not tell if it was an air cleaner or a swamp animal. Maybe it's my software.

cjb,

all you need to really do, is resize the photos to 800x600 pixels, file size doesn't matter. create an account with imageshack.us

Then upload the pic to there, once uploaded look for the link that says "Direct." Copy that link and put the link in between {} those here:

*/imagelink{copy link here}* (Remove the *'s when posting though).

Business has been slooooow so I knocked out some "home made" parts for the M2. Plugged the vent holes in the Ebay back plate and made longer spacers for the new fat filter. Fabbed a catch can out of 2" dia .060 wall stainless tubing left over from a hand rail job...pretty back street but it does work{http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/9029/1001271jo5.j pg}

Front cover detail for air cleaner above. So far it's only had the 90 mph test, but I plan further research

cj, good job, now I think you put two sets of brackets instead of one. =)

If you put one set, it'll show up in thread!

I just notices you have 2 air filters glued together? that is not how a factory race filter was set-up. You should have just one K&N filter approx 3" thick. These filters are still available from authorized dealers.

Yeah, let me see what the deal is with that.

This is what it was. What am I missing? Besides the cover and cover bolts that are already on the way.

There is a spacer that fits between the carb flange and backing plate. If it's not stuck to the back of the plate shown, you're going to need one.

dealer item. the spacer in the back was exclusive to just the race filter however.

The venturi ring is a sportster item, and is only a buck (my receipt shows pn 29179-88). You can also get a tall one through American Sport Bike for $12.95.

The aluminum spacer blocks can be bought from J & P Cycles in varying thicknesses. I believe the race setup uses 1/2" thick, but I used a 5/8" spacer (# 400-478, $16.99) from J & P.

Ok, so I need a 1/2" spacer and a venturi ring to complete the set?

I've got a cover on the way. Thanks Dan, glad we got that shipped with that ebay stuff..=)

Does any one know the K&N part numbers for the oval filters that Brinnutz posted above?
