Funny thing happened to me the other day as I was in the dealer to pick up a part they had ordered. The guy processing my order was new and as he was looking me up on the computer one of the older guys walked up and greeted me by name. I hadn't been there in several months. The older guy then told the new guy that when it comes to Buells that I was the guy to ask! I was then promptly grilled with several questions by the new guy who was interested in buying a new XB12XT himself.
Yes some dealers just plain suck but most I have encountered will listen if you appear to know what you're talking about.

The guys I deal with have made mistakes but they at the same time try to do the best they can with me because we treat each other with respect and honesty.

Respect and honesty will work for anybody at least 99.9% of the time.

BC Steve

DO NOT "BAD MOUTH" BAD DEALERS, to that "i" say "BUELLschitte" ...

You should refer all your friends to these "BAD DEALERS" so these DEALERS will get better ...

One of the ways you spot a "BAD DEALER" is every time you go in, all you see is new faces ...

Dealerships are service businesses. If you do not get good service, find another dealer.

The HD Sport Center in Duluth, MN is a very good dealer that has been in business since the early 1950s. Their customer service is legendary.

I love their ad slogan which says "All HDs were created equal - It's the dealer that makes the difference"

In the 1970s I was a tech at the local Triumph/Norton/Bultaco/Yamaha dealer.

Times were tough and it was hard to make a living but we tried to take care of our customers, many of whom were our friends and neighbors.

But as hard as we tried, we were not always able to make everyone happy all of the time.

Take the time to find a good dealer and work with them. Then tell your friends so that they will stay in business and they will be there for you when you need them.

You're right John,. I didn't like what I saw in service so I did open my own business! No it's not easy but it can be done if you care, and remember why you got into your line in the first place.
You CAN do business AND be polite kind and helpful to your customer.
Too many times in my experience, under paid and inexperienced people are unwilling to go the extra inch to do the right thing, that is managements issue and should be dealt with in training and more supervision while dealing with the public.
Opening a small business IS hard in these times, but it can be done.

BTW Don't underestimate the help available in these threads John, between you and Jim we all can do better than MOST H/D service shops, thanx for being there for us!

You guys are lucky/ Bad dealer or good dealer, at least you have a Buell dealer.

Amen to that. I have a Harley dealer in town, but no close Buell dealers or mechanics that know how to work on Buells.

That's kinda the point Ross, we shouldn't be all that special to H/D dealerships. This is a sportster based product, and we shouln't have to be so separate and ODD.
You don't see Honda dealers denying service to Goldwing riders because they aren't the mainstream sales item.
Yea,I know that's a stretch for comparison but you get my point.
Our machines are Harley-Davidsons...not Cagivas!

That is why there are FACTORY SERVICE MANUAL and PARTs BOOKs for each year and model ...

BUELL "TUBE FRAME" engine comes apart and goes back together the same as th EVO-SPORTSTER ENGINE ...

The FRONT ISOLATOR(-79C) is the same as used on the "BIG TWINS", ie: the BUELL engine hangs from the isolator where the "BIG TWIN" rests on it ...

Rear Isolators: Early BUELLs used the same rear isolators as the SOFT TAIL "BIG TWINs" ... They will work just fine as long as you do not pack double ...

The SWING ARM angle at rest causes the drive belt to be adjusted wrong if adjusted at rest ...

Drive Belt is the same as the 128T SPORTSTER DRIVE BELT ...
