I need a little help. I have two holes in each side of the 95 S2 tail section. The bike had hard bags on it when I got it and it looks like the holes were drilled to allow the rear blinker set relocation in order to mount the bags. Do the original S2 blinkers go in hole 1 or hole 2???  I am assuming the 95 S2 had just one set of holes? The section appears to be totally fiberglass so I will be filling one set in (I think hole number 2). I also noticed my S2T has only one set of holes but they appear to be hole number 2 and hole number 1 has a plug of some type that has been fiberglassed over. I wanted to check with the S2 gurus before I start laying glass.... Thanks, Frank | ||

Hole 1 is where any standard S2's turnsignals would go, and yes, they only had this hole. Hole 2 is where the turnsignals go on any S2 that has had the S2 saddlebags installed. I can't speak for an S2 equipped with the S3 bags as I ditched my stock turn signals LONG before I got the S3 bag on a S2 kit. If you plan on using your S2 bags on the bike at all, glass up hole 1. Your S2-T tail section is exactly how they came, but the plugs weren't glassed in IIRC. I don't know if I really qualify as a S2 guru... 1313  | ||

Thanks Brankin, I thought that was how they came but due to the quality of hole number 1 compared to hole number 2 I figured I better check. You are a S2/Buell guru in my book.... Thanks again, Frank | ||

Frank - my '95 has hole 1, empty, and the blinkers were moved to hole 2 because of the (p&a kit) bags. | ||

My '95 has both holes as well, since it has the Buell accessory bags added. I just put small black plastic plugs in hole #1 and you can barely see them. HBJ Attendee, 2009 Buell S2 "Round-Up in the Rockies"  | ||

Thanks Jay, I will have to remember to get some of those plastic plugs the next time I am at Lowes. BTW: Round-Up in the Rockies!! I like it. Can I steal it? | ||

Frank, Both of our S2's only have one hole, hole #1. If you use #2, you may run into problems doen the road. The glass is thinner at #2 and they WILL break though. At least my son's did (the red S2). I had to rebuild that section with fiberglass. I also repaired a couple of other cracks that were starting. I've got pictures around somewhere if you want to see what I did. My S2 has the lights in hole #2, with a big a$$ washer on the backside to distribute the load. Between that, and the fact that whoever drilled them put them too low and my bags "hold up" the signals...no cracking yet.  | ||

The instructions that came with the bag kit included a template to relocate the turn signals holes. | ||

Thanks Brad, Joe and Court, next week I will start on the body work. BTW Joe, I tested your 1000 grit sand paper on the shifter lever which is also in bad shape and it worked pretty good but it gives a more polished look than the stock metal. Still looks great but I do not know if I will do the primary that way because then I will have to do the cam cover as well LOL. Frank | ||

Court - I have no idea who installed the bags on my 95 (they were there when I bought the bike, along with the lowers and drop-peg brackets), so whether they used the template (correctly) or not is anyone's guess. I'm OK with the signals sitting against the bottom of their cutouts in the bag, though - keeps 'em from rattling Frank - I had the same thought on her XL...but then I realized that if I could see both of them (cam cover and primary cover) at the same time, I had bigger things to worry about. LOL. | ||

Do you have that? By the way . . . try ordering Buell P/N 00609.8 (Old Buell P/N 62080-94Y) Look what I found in my old reference books. . . .   | ||

Well Joe I have been working on the shifter lever on and off all day. It is a lot of work but the results are great. I got lazy and tried to use a dremel tool with a real fine buffing attachment and it made it a little rougher than I would like but it is a real bitch using 1000 grit by hand. It will work. I know what you mean about being able to see them both but that would bother the hell out of me. I guess that comes with being potty trained at gun point. I get a little anal about such things. I need to find 1000 grit for the orbital sander and go to work on the primary AND the cam cover... LOL. Frank | ||

Court - yep, got the rubber foam bumper / dust and dirt collector pads in there as well Permanently dented into the shape of the bottom of the lights, but no rattles! I'll have to try and order the plugs. The O0609.8 comes up as invalid on H-Dnet, but the HDI number comes up available, vendor direct/5 days, $0.28 retail price. But, it lists it as "black plug, 1/2" ". Been a while since I was in the garage (unfortunately) - are the holes *that* big? I don't recall 'em being that large... <sigh> I gotta get around to ordering my 95 S2 parts book, to shelf right next to the shop manual... Oh, and Frank? Work smarter, not harder...get the orbital pads! | ||

Jay, the shift lever is the stock aluminum lever. It was pitted up pretty bad. I took Ratbuells advice and sanded it with 1000 grit to get the coating off and used mothers to polish it. It actually came out too shiny so I buffed it with another pad last night while working on the body work. There is nothing like working on the S2 in the garage on a cool night with music and beer. I do not think life gets any better than that. | ||

Mmmm... beer.... Can't wait till I'm totally signed off on by all the docs and the PT's as "healthy", or as healthy as I'm gonna get. I miss beer....lol. |
