The usual whining the fuel pump on my S3 makes after turning the ignition on is getting louder. Is that a sure sign of impending failure?

I HAVE SEEN THAT HAPPEN IN THE AUTOMOTIVE WORLD. OLDER FORD'S DID THAT A LOT. IF IT BOTHER'S YOU I WOULD TAKE IT TO SHOP HAVE THEM PUT A LOW AMPS PROBE ON THE PUMP POWER WIRE AND GET A LOOK AT THE PUMPS'S WAVE FORM. THAT WILL TELL FOR SURE IF'S IT GOING OR JUST GETTING LOUD.

Have you changed your fuel filter lately?

Fuel filter has about 8k miles or less on it.... should be at about 1/3 life I think.

Amp draw look like a good idea. What amperage would a healthy pump draw?

Bob, When the fuel level is very low in my tank, the noise is frightening. It sounds like it is going to self destruct. Having said that, the sound does vary from day to day and so far no problems.
