Hey guys , I am picking up my Buell tomorrow. I am getting a 97 S3 with a special motor. Actually the whole bike is a special. I am trading it for my 97 TL1000S, I have always wanted a Buell, so I am pretty excited. I will try to post some pics. george

sweet george! Enjoy. You will see it has quite a bit more personality than that TL. The TL is fun but the Buell will top it.

I did a makeshift resize and save-as-jpg on it in to make it easier to see, sort of.

I need some help/feed back. The seat is mounted 2" over the subframe, the clip ons are too low, and the race seat is too hard. I have some superbike handlebars coming and I have a XB9 top triple that needs a clamp for the bars. I am also considering some type of stock seat. ?? thanks, george

I can see how all that would be uncomfortable. Thanks for adding the higher quality pics, the first one was straining my eyes.

I would agree to get a new seat but with that aftermarket rear cowl, i don't know how hard it would be to find one that would work... maybe a stock firebolt seat? or one like it. (a lil fab never heart any one... right?)

Those aftermarket clip-ons that bolt to the fork tubes are WAY to low. I rode a 96 S1 that had em and I was cramping after 15 min.! but with that front cowling you might have to stick with em. It looks like any other bar would hit that plastic.

Good luck with it George! And congrats!
Please keep us updated.

I have handlebars coming. I am going to raise the fairing to match the bars. I will check into a firebolt seat. I am not afraid to cut up the solo seat. thanks, george

You know, I've been wanting to try that trick with the slip joints and springs on the head pipes for a long time--looks like a great way to avoid some of the chronic exhaust-breaking problems some of these bikes experience.

Believe it or not, those look like airtech parts. The front fairing lines are just too close, and the rear looks exactly like it. I think it uses the stock S1 seat or something like that. Anyhow, here is their link, give them a call AFTER you figure out what tail you have. It looks like the Superbike tail to me

Hope it answers your seat question!!

The exhaust pipe is not stock. At first it looked like a Buell race pipe, but I have not seen on with the spring clamps on the right side before. The chain setup I am guessing was used to change the gearing. For street use, I would go back to a belt. Much easier maintnance. I would also switch to a newer style Swingarm as I think they look better.

I love the bodywork and paint job. Overall I think that is one sweet ride!

Also, if you look at the picture of the exhaust can it looks like the footpg has been attached to a fabricated mount. Also the shifter has been raised up by and attached to a bracket welded to the case? Now that I look closer, the Exhaust can is mounted much closer to the engine then stock. Interesting setup to gain ground clearance.

It is good to see that there is another tuber owner in MN. And if you are interested Donahue HD in Sauk Rapids (St. Cloud) is having their open house on the 26th and that falls on the same date as the monthly buell ride from there. Meet there no latter than 3:30. If the weather is good that day hopefully I will be there . I would like to see your bike in person.

The pipe is a Racing piece Vance and Hines built for the Buell race shop. They only made like 8 sets. If you look at the front of the canister it is welded, where a street can would be rivited. Also the perferated core inside the muffler is oval to match the can. It has a deeper tone. The bodywork is Airtech race stuff. The front fairing used to wrap up to the tank, he cut it down to what you see now. The tail is a Pro Thunder race tail. Still has the holes in the top for the transponder. It is a XB9 front end, 2003 motor with XB9 pistons, heads, stroker crank. Also has screamin eagle cams (536) and screamin eagle ignition box. It seems to run well. You barely touch the starter and its running. The riding position is torture. My hands are just below my knees when I ride it. The PO did raise the pegs, he also mounted the tail 2" above the subframe rails. That only makes the low clipons even worse. Thanks for all the coments, you guys rule. Cant say that about other forums. george

I bet you get nothing but looks at a traffic light. I like the raised pegs and exhaust.

I don't remember who, but there is a company that made a tail just like that and it fit over a stock S1 seat. It may have even been airtech.

Holy dirtbike throttle batman!

Nice ride.

I had my seat redone by Amercana Soft seating. My S1 had what felt like a leather covered 2X8. Your body work is Air Tech and one of the tails they make goes over the stock seat. Have the filling replaced with Gel and memory foam will make a big difference. My S1 had their full GP body on it when I bought it but I couldn't deal with having the bars below the top tree. Thats Ok when your 20 but not pushing 50.
