I have about an inch of play in my chain and I was looking (trying too) at the adjuster bolt. I SAID TO MYSELF "YOU GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!" I have to pull the exhaust and maybe the chin spoiler Is their an easier way???

In a word, "no".

Unless maybe you could grab the threads with a wrench of some sort but that would severely bugger the threads.

I do it while I drain the oil. Once you do it you see what tools and techniques you need and it's no big deal. It takes me about 10 minutes to remove and install.

Once the chain is broken in it's fairly infrequent that it needs an adjustment.

Thanks guys, I'm not sure if it was adjusted before. The bike just turned 8000 miles. Next, what tool is used to turn the bolt? My spoiler covers it and I can't see if its an allen key or a torque? If it's an allen key I may be able to sneak a cut down key in their.

Allen, but I can't remember what size off the top of my head.

On my X1 i just remove the chin spoiler.I've never remove the muffler to do it.

I have a 5/16 allen key with the lead end ground very short. It's JUST long enough to fully seat into the socket head of the adjuster. It's easy

A ball-end allen key will work well. Very little effort is required to turn the adjusting screw.

Good Looking Out Guys!!! I'll loosen the one side of the chin spoiler first to gain access. This just might work

HHAAA, I DID IT!!! Thank God for rounded Allen keys! I was able to slip it between the spoiler and muffler on an angle. Then I slipped a wrench between the frame and shock. Well one project done 100000 more to go!!!
